Ok,so i finally saw the much talked about MIA and the first thing that came to my notice was the excellent picture and sound quality.These two jumped in my face immediately i pressed the play button.It was a far cry from and a wellcome change from the usual quality that i am used to from the VCD and VHS tapes of naija movies from downtown.
The very high audio/visual quality of this movie is not only due to the distribution medium itself(DVD,but the combination of a competent professional recording during shoot and the medium itself.The DP did a wonderful job tweaking the camera to get the best possible images out of it.Naija DPs use more expensive cameras,yet still can't manage the same high level of image quality,so kudos!
The soundman also did a great job too.There were no ditortions nor background noises,everything coming out clean and crisp.Neither the original track nor the music track was clipped in any way, unlike what we get from naija recordings.Thumbs up there too.
The movie opened with lovely shots of the big metropole as the credits rolled and the theme music was the type i like to wake up to in the morning. Loved it.
Now the first voice of critique.The introduction of the main xter(TONIA)was not well done in my opinion.It was too sudden,too brusque.In my view, it would've been a lot better to introduce her right from the start of the movie.A shot of her coming out of the airport and taking in her new surroundings before taking a cab to wherever she is headed.
Thos lovely new york shots should have been linked to her visually,the images from her POV as she rides in the cab towards her first address.The way those shots were made,made them look a little too disconnected from the movie itself.
The second critique goes to the naija actor playing FELA'S friend.The guy was as stiff as a board and he was delivering his lines as if he was reciting the nigerian pledge.
The next critique goes to the way the main xter and BIMBO met. Bimbo reacted as if that was not the first time she had seen a total stranger spilling into her livingroom at that time of the day,or that she had seen Tonia exactly in that position,in the same situation a few times before. The "wakey wakey!" line did not sound right.
I also thought that Tonia was made to look a little too weak for my liking as she seemed to wander aimlessly around.She was not portrayed as the strong and determined woman looking for her long lost husband the way the synopsis suggested.As a matter of fact, the main xter was very much overshadowed by the xters,BIMBO and the doctor.Ofcourse as a result, the main plot(Tonia in search of her hubby)was very much overshadowed by the subplot(the thing between the doc and Bimbo) which in turns made the movie as a whole,seemed a little flat. believe that more attention should've been paid to the developement of the main plot and xter. I definitely did not get the kind of "action" the synopsis promised.
All in all the movie was ok.It will not set the pulse racing as it provided too little dramatic moments. The syno flatters it a little bit.
The technically high production level still makes this movie worth a watch anyway,despite obvious flaws.
Sola can definitely do better than this.Recommended all the same.

It was an average film. Would have loved to see more action though, and also what happened to Agatha after she found about her husband's secret life.
Dat Buky Campbell has got the looks to kill despite her plus size body. Meen, she sure has proper body and boobs.
Abeg, anti Buki, where u dey get ur bra? I wan get the same o, and if u can teach me how to wear it too.
