The homvie was not bad.The concept was nice, but underused, the same problem that naija homvies suffer. The fight scenes went on for way too long, and the GBUUSHIA GBUUSHIA sound effects of the blows were overexergerated. The director,Onyeabor, is known for that ,anyway. That is his trademark.
The acting too was overly aggressive and projected,in other words, too much overacting.I think the prince(the hero) should've been made to display less aggressive attitude to crystalize his peaceful nature. But unfortunately he was portrayed to be just as emotionally out of control and aggressive as his warmongering father and chiefs. That did not sit well with his personality at all.A case of zero xter development during the scripting stages.
There were quite a number of lapses in the plot, too, which indicates lack of development of the major xters in the story. All these shortcomings, ofcourse, are inherent to homvies and we're already used to them, and the viewers know how to ignore them.Example of such plot errors,is the unrealistically exergerated contrast between the village settings(which look like a different era or age entirely) and the modern setting of the city.As the plot moves back and forth between the two settings,it looks and feels like the viewers are being made to timetravel from the ancient times to the present and back.Strange.
All in all,it is a ghanian homvie that never tried to pretend to be anything else but a homvie.Which means,it is very watchable, but not brilliant.
There is also a bollywood style romantic song/dance sequence too, with the hero and the heroine.
