There are times when i am close to giving up on nollywood flicks,EMG or YMG,but then, filmmakers like TK(Tunde Kelani) come out to remind me that a new higher level or standard is very much around.Though not yet dominantly active, but definitely idling and is getting ready to start revving.
Then i make a U-turn of hope and start to watch again, anytime i have enough time to do so.
That is what happened when i watched ABENI yesterday(thanks to olaafol). This flick atleast gives me hope(one more time) that nollywood is capable of going one step higher and maintaining that standard.
For real, every quality hungry nollywood nollywood fan should wake up every morning and give serious thanks to God almighty for giving naija's budding film industry a master filmmaker like TK,and then follow it up with fervent prayers to give us atleast 10 more TKs before the end of this year.
Abeni,as a movie(yes,i call it a movie and not a homvie) does not pretend to be a groundbreaking work, but what it does is wander into a very familiar premise and still come out looking as fresh as a daisy. Now that takes a mastery of filmmaking to achieve, and who else possesses that but TK,and he proves it once again.
Abeni is a beautiful flick to watch.Visually,it is a feast for the eyes. The photography is masterful, way higher than we are used to by other DP pretenders that parades their trades in the industry.
Abeni is a grade A nolly movie that will delight any moviewatcher that lays a lot of value on the aesthet.
Movies like Abeni feel me with pride and hope that nollywood will not fail, but realise it's full potential as a moviemaking industry capable of delivering worldclass productions.
Abeni is beautiful to watch, very beautiful.

Hmmmm! This movie is just D-A-M-N! This is the film that had my fingers on rewind button constantly especially when akanni is talking, not only the guy was cute but he can act and likewise the way he speaks his yoruba with french accent (cotonou). A job well done from the storyline to the directing, each scenes werent dragged at all, wish others could be this good. definitely recommend it, lookig forward to the part 2 title Akanni, I think! A very nice romatic movie!
