Pros: Very good production quality -
Cons: The story was ok

This was a highly anticipated movie [shot on 35mm film, with collab from BBC, etc]. Did it meet the high expectations? Yes and No.

It is the story behind the gospel song "amazing grace". Though many debate the real story behind the songs composer's life(Joihn Newton), this version sheds nice African light on things.

The production values were very good - camera work, acting, location, set design, Joke Silva narration was sweet, the story unfolded in a very nice way, etc. How ever the story itself left me a little flat - I wanted more, expected more. It's a good story - though told many times before, slave trade aspect that is - and its one that needed to have an African version.

Funny enough a British/Hollywood production of the same name and storyline came out around the same time - giving a European version of the same story. That too was just an OK movie. Maybe I'm being biased but I personally liked the Amata version better. Over all it was a good movie.
