Good Script

|
Cons:

Too many cracks in this movie
|

Good Script but a seasoned actor should have been chosen for the lead. Fred, you are producer/director not an actor. Yemi, my handsome black prince you did well. I love your diction and you can be my permanent stranger for life. IB was just speaking her lines and not really getting down like Elvina who had fun playing her character. Segun did well with his small role. Eucharia was looking good and her makeup and hair did not scare me in this movie as they did in Area Mama. Joke Silva, Madam Class you looked good and delivered. Genny did well. Nice pairing of Genny and Yemi.

The set, the picture quality, the lines, the cover jacket-BRAVO!

|
Cons:

lead actor-Fred Amata ( zero chemistry with Genny, wish RMD had played d part), Ibinabo's character (wish Bimbo Akintola played that)

I agree with NTB, Watch 'Keeping Faith\ to see what good characterisation can elevate a movie. YEMI is THE guy! The voice was just something else. I loved all the office set and the scenes were straight to the point. Thank you for making a one part movie. Enjoyed the movie!

Casting could have been tighter

All in all I enjoyed this movie. The camera shots were steady and the scenes were fluid. Elvira did a good job too... She was a little over the top, but I enjoyed her nevertheless...

Go out and get “Letters to a Stranger’
Okay. Let me say it from the beginning. I’m starting a trust fund that will enable me buy as many copies of this movie as I can and hand them out to every Nigerian movie maker I can find.
Starring Elvina Ibru, Genevieve Nnaji, Fred Amata and the new love of my life, Yemi Blaq, the story is that Nnaji’s character is in love with two men and has to choose between them. Now you might not consider that a particularly exciting story line, since you’ve probably seen a movie that has that same plot before. But the script written by Victor Sanchez Aghahowa was intelligent, funny, suspenseful in places where suspense was needed and all round superbly written. Did I mention I loved the script?
Now, anyone who used to read my column in the past or even the last two editions would know how much I complain about lazy scriptwriting, where script writers assume the audience is not intelligent enough to know when they are being sold hogwash. This script made no such assumptions and I was very pleased.
The movie started out like a movie I would want to watch, holding my attention from the very beginning. The turns and twists kept me entertained and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was watching a movie I might actually watch a second time, which I eventually did.
I loved Elvina Ibru. She was more than perfect as the crazy friend and I loved her because she had me reeling with laughter. I think she probably got the best lines in the movie, bar one. Genevieve Nnaji is always perfect and she finally got a script that played to her strengths, one of which is that somehow innocent, yet worldly look she can get in her eyes that makes you believe this is really her life.
Now in the course of this movie, I fell in love. If you recall, at the beginning of the article, I said Yemi Blaq was the love of my life. This is because after watching this movie, I now want to marry him. Since this is the first time I’ve seen him in a movie, I’m sending out an SOS to anyone who knows him. Who is this guy? Can I meet him? I want him to come whisper to me in that soft, sweet voice of his. Look, I’ve heard some lines in this grouchy, old life of mine, but believe this; I almost passed out in envy when he switched from ‘big grammar’ to pidgin to express his feelings. I wished he was talking to me! Somebody, anybody, tell this guy; he has turned me into a believer.
Now, to the stuff I didn’t like. You know I love Fred Amata. I think he is a great director. Honestly, cross my heart, this is not me just being bitchy, but in my not-so-humble opinion, Fred and Ibinabo Feberesima shouldn’t have been in the movie. I get the point that he directed the movie and as such couldn’t resist acting in it. And since I hear from the tabloids (which I don’t read) that he and Ibinabo are an item, I guess he thought she had to be in it. But really, neither of them did anything for the movie that someone with better skills, commensurate with those of the other actors, couldn’t have done. They were both stilted and a bit unwieldy. Amata’s directing is far better than his acting.
Without giving too much away, I also didn’t like the speed with which one of characters was invited over by another one, after what amounted to a chance encounter. I don’t know that the average Nigerian girl would be so eager to invite a complete stranger over after just talking on the phone. He could have been a crazed murderer. I understand they had time constraints because of one of the pegs of the plot, but the invitation just seemed too hasty for me.
There was a scene where two of the actors walked out of a house into the open to talk. Unfortunately, I could hardly hear them over the racket coming from next door, where it was obvious a church was having a crusade. The singing and carrying on gave it away. Someone should have figured out the sound would seep into the recording. The scene could very easily have been shot indoors to minimize the noise.
Then there was the scene of the two guys in Abuja that had some parts that became too convoluted. I understand they wanted to create some conflict between them, but parts of the conversation just left me confused, though I understood it better after watching it a second time.
All in all, minute details in a movie I thoroughly enjoyed. You know that, coming from me, that says a lot. Even though I was practically screaming at the end because of the choice one of the characters made, still I have to say, make sure you watch it.

Could tell Genevieve's(Ibinabo) sister was acting

No hype. Wont say much cuz we all agree When there is a Genevieve and Joke Sylvia in a movie the drama lingers in your mind after even u have seen the movie but Elvina Ibru was highly impressive.
