I'm sorry this took so long to write, I have no excuse, so here goes:
"Listen for God's voice....He's the one who will keep you on track" Proverbs 3:6
Short-cuts:
Are you tired of waiting for God? Are you tempted to get behind the wheel and take over? Before you do remember this: a short-cut can short-circuit your destiny! It happens on God's timetable, not yours.
After Samuel anointed David to be king, he had to stand back and wait for 7 long years while Samuel jeopardized Israel's future and forced him into hiding. Then one of those "short-cuts" showed up. One of David's soldiers discovered Saul defenseless and asleep in his tent, so he came to David and told him, "God has delivered your enemy into your hand.....Let me strike him."
What an opportunity! Get rid of the man who wants to kill you. Come out of hiding and claim your throne. After all, you're already anointed to be king! It all made sense except for one thing- it wasn't part of God's plan. As much as David wanted to rule Israel he knew that to succeed he must do it God's way, according to God's timetable, or else it wouldn't have been God's blessing and approval.
When Abishai offered to kill Saul he had only David's welfare at heart. That's sobering! Well-meaning friends can give you advice that's contrary to God's plan. That's when it's hard not to go along with it, or to defend your decision by rationalizing that the end justifies the means. Never let anyone, however well-intentioned, persuade you to do what you know is wrong. Instead, "Listen for God's voice....He's the one who will keep you on track."
