Post Alao-Akala sworn in as Oyo State governor

As soon as the Acting Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Taiwo Oluyemi, pronounced the resolution of the House impeaching the embattled governor at exactly 8.35 AM, the stage was set for his Deputy, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala to take over as he was immediately sworn in two hours later at the Executive Council chambers of the governor by the state acting Chief Judge, Justice Afolabi Adeniran. The journey towards Ladojaâs exit began last Monday when the Chief Samuel Ayorinde led seven -man investigative panel rounded up its sitting without taking the defence of embattled Ladoja. In his acceptance speech, Governor Akala said it is the will of god that he will be Governor of Oyo State. He said he became governor not because he sought the office but by the constitutional provision, which stipulates that, the deputy governor assumed the position of the governor in the event of resignation, death or an impeachment. In this case an impeachment has taken place.Akala, an Ogbomoso man said he knew the importance of Ibadan in politics of Oyo State and the south west and promised that the city will not diminish in status under his administration. After the speech, Akala immediately announced the dissolution of the state Executive Council and directed all commissioners to hand over properties of government with them to the Permanent Secretaries in their ministries. Speaking with reporters in an interview, Akala said he does not know the whereabout of his former boss but promised to try and locate him. Ladoja's forced exit from the Agodi Government House brought to an end the over two year simmering feud between him and his erstwhile political godfather, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, who parted ways with him shortly after he assumed office in 2003 for reneging on the agreement reached with him before his election.
