mowunmi Akinnifesi was all smiles as she shook hands with friends, well-wishers and family members who were at the church service to felicitate with her. The occasion was the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to a number of faithful in her place of worship, Saint John’s Anglican Communion, Aroloya on Lagos.

Fifth in a family of six children, 19-year old Omowunni Akinnifesi an indigene of Ondo State, combines beauty with talent and charisma to clinch the exalted position which she travelled to Ukraine, China, among other countries. She had earlier been baptised and served in the youth wing of the church. Omowunmi is the daughter of Dr. Emmanuel Olu Akinnifesi, a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and West African Monetary Agency in Sierra Leone, where the Queen, as she is fondly called by pals, had her early education.

“It has always been my dream to become a queen. I was a member of the School Boss in my secondary school. I contested in Miss Nigeria 1998 and emerged as the 16th out of 55 contestants. That was Queen’s College, Yaba, Lagos”, she said.
She attended the Sierra Leone International School and later the Lebanese International School in Freetown when her father was a diplomat in that country.
“I always wanted to be myself, bold, focused and hard working”, she said.

A Geography and Regional Planning, sophomore at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Omowunmi recently returned from China where she represented Nigeria as the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN).
“I had to defer my programme in UNILAG to enable me concentrate on the Miss Nigeria Project”, she said. Among such projects include Sickle Cell, tourism and charity walk.
For Omowunni, the saying that Rome was not built in a day holds true. Though, she never participated in any beauty contest in her primary and secondary school days, the family in famous.

Her elder sister, Bolanle is an actress and model. Omowunmi said she was inspired by Bolanle.
“She inspires me a lot. She is a goal getter”.
It is not surprising that dancing and singing are Omowunni’s hobbies.
“I danced for the Miss World project in China”, she said.
Her role models include Opral Benson for her project in empowering women and Nerry Kendal, a model. "
