Vince Is Right.
Vince said something in a thread about the watchers of Nigerian movies not knowing what they want or not wanting anything different. (Forgive me for not getting the exact phrase) i don't remember which thread.
I was all set to jump down his throat but I got sidetracked.
Then I read the thread on Dancing Hearts and I realized that Vince is correct.
I haven’t seen the movie but it appears to have a different concept, which a lot of people seemed to have trouble with.
One group said it was unrealistic, another group said it is not representative; yet another group didn’t like just because it was, well, different.
And it dawned on me that MOST of us are content with the same old story lines and we will complain about those same story lines and when someone dares to try something different, we take up issue with it.
Like I said, I haven’t seen the movie, and although it’s been given bad reviews here, I will say Kudos to Tchidi Tchikere for attempting something different.
Like someone on the dancing heart thread said: movies are not supposed to be realistic all the time.
Why can’t we just embrace the different and run with it?
(Side bar: I loved the movie bridge stone with RMD and Liz Benson, it was light, funny, not to be taken seriously, but someone on this web board vehemently opposed it. I mean really! How can RMD show his range as an actor if all he does is act as a suave, smooth, polished character in ALL his movies? He was totally completely RAZZ in this movie)
Anyway Vince, you are right, majority of the nollywood fans are not ready for something different, I won’t use the word sophisticated like you did, but we just haven’t gotten to the point where we are ready to broaden our minds and open ourselves up for something different. I think it’s time, but…
