For more than four hours on Friday May 25, the party at the Nigerian pavilion got the whole of Cannes reverberating. It held at the instance of the African Movie Academy Awards, whose Chief Executive, Mrs. Peace Anyiam-Fiberesima, is known to spare no expense at making a statement.

Last November, she literally got the whole of Cape Town drunk at her AMAA party during the Sithengi Film Market, and in March, she stormed the FESPACO film festival with a private jet chartered specially to announce AMAA.

In Cannes, she achieved no less with endless stream of food, drinks and African music. The sexy London-based Nigerian actress, Funke Ajikawo, captured the scene so aptly: “Everybody became like animals. Civility broke down.” She was describing the tumultuous response of the guests, both black and whites, to the huge tilapia fish and fried plantain delicacies that Anyiam-Fiberesima had specially ordered from a Congolese caterer, which turned guests at the party to unrestrained gluttons.

“Our aim,” said Anyian-Fiberesima, “is to announce that Nigerian was here and that AMAA was part and parcel of Nigeria’s presence in Cannes this year.”

Thre rationale on this thread makes me laugh ....okay lets put it into perspective ..... ( Joi I go take u do analogy)

For instance if Joi wants to promote her plus size pageant....a new pageant she begun somewhere in .....lets say Kentucky. She decides she needs a good marketing plan to bring exposure to her new pageant ...she decides she wants to go to Equador where the Miss World pageant is scheduled to hold believing the world press and cameras will feature all the happenings in the area during this time. She holds a party and infact even though she is not sponsoring a model to the Miss World pageant she has successfully used a major event to shed light on the existence of her new organisation ..........Can someone tell me what is wrong with that fantastic marketing /media plan ????????????

Just because she went to Cannes we now know that someone called Anyiam Fiberesima and her AMA award show is in existence !!!

Who said you have to have a movie to submit to Cannes to actually represent there ....Im embarrassed by this thread ...even Mavy is that closed minded to be critical of Naija presence at Cannes??? Please what movie industry bible are ya all reading ???

Its like saying you cant walk into a trade fair except you have a product to display as per say there is a competition among the vendors !!!

So as per say our movies are so low standard (meanwhile mofos are still buying the movies oh) means naija has no right to step foot in the French Riviera and make their presence felt cos they make poor quality movies ?? Isnt there a Nigerian movie industry ...dont they plan to show case movies in the future at Cannes ? So Naija peeps are such nonentities that they dare not go show face in Cannes ??

Isnt that the more reason Naija folks should go to Cannes to see what other countries are showcasing ???

I bow for una oooh .... I bow !!!

maiuna try !!
