Eee, you make some great points here!! You are totally right. Success should be determined by the individual.
It just your original post about Hilary made it seem that her hard work played no part in what she, Hilary, considered success. Is this what you meant?
While Samira's point was that there is some point, where you, the human being, must excerise free will to use the tools that God gave you, to achieve your success. Whatever you might deem that to be.
So I don't think you guys are saying things too different. You both acknowledge a divine power in all we do. I think you might differ in how much free will we humans have to determine their fates..
