Simi you are so right.... But I have always felt there is so much more to the causes of the events that leads to these acts.

These acts, the armed robbery and the public retaliation is sometimes born, but often fueled by the poverty and despair of the parties involved. Although, general bad human intentions, and evil, plays a part, but poverty, suffering and the helplessness felt by the under privileged in Nigeria is often the root cause... The victims, both robber and the robbed, cannot even count on a good or simply responsive police force to protect them.

I had always wonder why armed robbers was so ruthless. It is born from an anger and a greed that cannot be satisfied by conventional or legal or non violent means. They can't attack the other thieves in government and big business, so they terrorize other poor and helpless people they can reach. And the expend their anger upon them. The victims then in turn unleash their own anger on any captured assailants in kind. It is a terrible cycle that is fueled by poverty, helplessness and despair.

Armed robbery in countries with a closer gap between rich and poor, are perpetrated by low level, less intelligent crooks. There are so many other ways to get wealth, many non violently. In addition there are rules of law that gives stiffer penalties for crimes of a violent nature... If we have these laws in Nigeria, there is little honest, or even, enforcement. When at times the police themselves terrorize the populous more than any other entity.. So where does the public turn to for justice... Themselves.

It is truly sad....
