Although, general bad human intentions, and evil, plays a part, but poverty, suffering and the helplessness felt by the under privileged in Nigeria is often the root cause... The victims, both robber and the robbed, cannot even count on a good or simply responsive police force to protect them.

I had always wonder why armed robbers was so ruthless. It is born from an anger and a greed that cannot be satisfied by conventional or legal or non violent means. They can't attack the other thieves in government and big business, so they terrorize other poor and helpless people they can reach. And the expend their anger upon them. The victims then in turn unleash their own anger on any captured assailants in kind. It is a terrible cycle that is fueled by poverty, helplessness and despair.

Armed robbery in countries with a closer gap between rich and poor, are perpetrated by low level, less intelligent crooks. There are so many other ways to get wealth, many non violently. In addition there are rules of law that gives stiffer penalties for crimes of a violent nature... If we have these laws in Nigeria, there is little honest, or even, enforcement. When at times the police themselves terrorize the populous more than any other entity.. So where does the public turn to for justice... Themselves.

It is truly sad....
...Nna..as much as I agree with U to a certain point,I disagree with some of it.There are a lot of wealthy armed robbers......so they're not doing it out of 'poverty'.Shina Rambo was no pauper..he had his conglomerate of channels to funnel stolen vehicles out of Nigeria.Yes,some got into it out of poverty, but when they saw how lucrative it is,they chose never to go legit..kinda like doing 419.Besides,this is nothing new in Nigeria..the worst thing anyone can do to U in Nigeria is to scream "OLE!" on U and U're done...but in cases where there's a real thief/robber being apprehended, they all know going into the act what their fates would be.THat's why if U understand any Yoruba, one of the folks in that video was saying "Let them feel the pain too.."...imagine..that's because these robbers inflict so much pain on the public @ large. It never used to be like that...but then in the mid 70's that's when this whole jungle justic business started. For those of U saying this is barbaric, have U ever been stopped by armed robbers before? Please ask anyone who has...and ask what they think of this video..
