If she's not arrogant as some has suggested, why don't she just pick up the phone and apologize to the person she offended. I just don't understand the big deal. Maybe those people were right, maybe she is arrogant. If not, she should proof them all wrong by apologizing and lets all move on with our lives. Personally, I so f'king tired of waiting.

Dsam, what you fail to realize is that Laila does not need Gene.....if anything, Gene is the one who needs Laila...those days when gene was the one and only are gone as there are so many other actresses to choose from. So go figure!

The above is the classic definition of arrogance. I desperately hope Leila is not as arrogant as you just described above. Young (female) Africans need good role models, not arrogant people. It doesn't really matter who needs or doesn't need who. What really matter is for Leila to proof to the world that she's not as arrogant as some people perceived her.

Nobody's stopping you from moving on...from this thread and all things Leila...I'm sure your life will be right where you left it.

Why should she prove anything to anyone ? And did I see you write some rubbish up there that she should apologize to who again? Dsam, be serious for once. You of all people is speaking of arrogance???? How did you connect what I said to Leila being arrogant? FYI, what I said up there are my own observations and I stand by what i said! There are so many good actresses out there and Gene is no longer the one and only like she use to be. Sadly, it is a fact and there is nothing you or anyone can do about it....too many fishes out there in the sea...

What she has said to the media and how she has said it in the past gets in the way of people appreciating and patronizing her work. Yes I think so. If you think I do not have a mind of my own, that is your opinion. I tried to give as unbiased a review as I could.

Hellooooooooo, Ms. Angela. Just tell your boss to reach out to the people she'd dissed in the past, and the "perception of arrogance & difficult to work with thingy" will all go away. She's the only one who can help herself, no one else can, period.

i'm hoping the 4th and kinder, saner, sensible dsampler is still in the building, can the other three send her out to play today? i need her to read this:
    dear 4th dsampler,
i don't know if you're privvy to what's gone on in the past, but is it possible for you to ask you-know-who to take a page out of the book that other 3 are asking Ms Leila to read, and call ms Leila to bury the hatchet?
i mean, that would be the humble, non-arrogant, good role model to do. i know you-know-who is y'all's role model and i'm sure she will be setting a good example for you if she shows you that it is the nicest thing to do when you call someone you have a quarrel with and say "you know what? let's just bury this thing between us and move on and move past it, let's show the world what two strong African women are capable of.
i think it would be the bestest thing, don't you agree?

perhaps when she does that, the other 3 dsamplers can finally move on.

I thank you as you consider my request.
eagerly awaiting a response from the 4th member of the legion.

I said it gets in the way of people's feelings for her work.

Brooms, I have nada to gain or lose by addressing your comment which abeg make I clarify that you have a right to and this is a discussion not an argument. I have read many of the things said about Leila online especially after that entire Tulips crap because I was curious about this little woman who can generate such vitriolic comments against her person and do you know what I derived from it? Our people don't like the truth!!! Since Leila doesn't play that African game of smiling, nodding and getting along just to get along, they vilify her. She is a no-nonsense, straight talking person and will not see sh*t and say no, it's flowers that look and smell good. She calls people on their BS and we as Africans don't like that...why do you think we speak a lot in proverbs? Because it is a way saying what we want to say without being what would be considered confrontational. She is but one of a very few film makers that is FEMALE and AFRICAN who is working without the help of any support from any Ghanaian/Nigerian or any other African business person and that hurts a lot of them. Is it right for someone to say to her that her mother should have aborted her if she knew Leila was going to be that ugly? Is that right? What did she do to deserve such statements?

Do you know how many ECCENTRIC film makers, actors etc are out there in Hollywood but do you see their movies without letting that bother you, sure? Does the rest of America etc, sure? Why is it that in Leila's case you feel that how people perceive her permeates her work? How does her attitude stop a person from feeling horrible for Pabi's character in Sinking Sand who is being brutalized by her husband? If you let that affect you (general you not you Brooms specifically) then you've missed the point. Wetin that got to do with if Leila calls out actors and actresses for being more concerned about how many lines they have in the script as opposed to their character and how to bring it alive...yes, I read that in an interview she gave online. If her trying to make the industry wake up and change it's game plan is attitude, then I hope she continues because at least it's an attitude that serves a purpose; at least she has talent, education and the experience to back up her claims!

Leila Djansi Is Pleasant To Work With -Omotola

Top Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has said that she decided to work with Hollywood trained Ghanaian director, Leila Djansi on her new movie titled ‘Ties That Bind’ because she realized that the award winning director is a professional person to work with.

According to the beautiful actress, who is otherwise known in Nollywood as Omosexy, “I heard two things about Leila; one, they said she is a very good filmmaker and two, people said she is very troublesome.” Upon her investigation, Omotola told NEWS-ONE while in Ghana, she realized that what had been said about the latter was not true. “I was a little bit cautious. Those were important things for me to clarify.

First I have to see her movie to clarify that she is a good filmmaker. Secondly, I had to allay the impression that she is troublesome to see if she is someone I can work with. This is because it is also a bad situation when you are working with somebody and the person is unpleasant. You just can’t work; it holds back the creativity because you are always angry. So I had to clarify those two things. I had her send me her movie. I watched the movie and I was clear with the fact that she is an intellectual person, I can work with.

Now I had to check if she is a person I can work with as a personality. In our first meeting, I asked her a lot of questions, things I have heard about her and questions I personally have for her and I found out that most of them were not true.” Besides, Omotola said, she liked the script of ‘Ties That Bind’, hence acceptance to work with her.

Omotola Jalade has been in Nollywood for the past 15 years. Working on Leila’s set was her first job in Ghana. She praised Leila, saying she felt comfortable working with her. “I realize that she is a very pleasant person. Leila is a humble person.

She is servitude; someone who likes to serve people. There is so many a time on set that she brings food to you personally and I am like that’s almost uncalled for and she does that to her PAs and everybody. But we all have a good side and bad side. In Africa, I believe we are all growing up. If somebody did something, call the person personally instead of putting it in a medium that would affect all of us as a whole,” Omotola said.

The new movie’s set wrapped up a few weeks ago. Omotola played the role of Adobea in ‘Ties That Bind’. The multimillion dollar movie, which Leila describes as her biggest project, also stars Hollywood’s Kimberly Elise, British Ghanaian star Ama K Abebrese, Hollywood star Randal Batinkoff and Ebbe Bassey.

Other stars include John Dumelo, David Dontoh, Prince David Osei and a host of others. ‘Ties that Bind’ is the story of Adobea, Buki and Theresa, three women from different walks of life bound together by a similar pain- the loss of a child. In a destined meeting, in a small village in Kroboland, the women journey together to redemption, love, life and forgiveness as they renovate a dilapidated clinic for the villagers.

Maybe people are misunderstanding me a bit. I am not against Leila Djansi. I admire Leila a lot for all the above mentioned qualities;first and foremost because she speaks her mind. I am outspoken too and trust me I don't have too many friends to show for it. Even this our small NR is evidence of that. Those who call a spade a spade are not liked. I know that. What I said was that it is SAD that someone filled with so much skill can let --past utterances--foreshadow her abilities. By that I mean she should be recognized for her craft at the mention of her name than for the controversies she has become known for. There is no smoke without fire. Leila has contributed to the mixed emotions Ghanaians and others feel at the mention of her name. She could have done without all that negative press. She can and should pinpoint the flaws she came to meet in the industry. Its all in the manner in which you approach a situation. What you say and how you say it. She could have done better from that standpoint. She did not need to return insult for insult like she has done. Ghanaians as a lot---unfortunately sometimes delight in pulling those ahead of them down. Troll Ghanaian websites and you will see. Some unsavory and very hurtful comments have been made about Leila on the internet and it has chilled me to the bone to have read some of them.

Aside from what I think her past mistakes were, there is I think, among some Ghanaians a tribal element where Leila is concerned. She is from the Ewe tribe and let me use this opportunity to say that the Ewe people as harmless and good as they have been historically are discriminated against in Ghana. More than any other tribe. I cannot begin to describe the level of hatred some Ghanaians feel for the Ewes. For no particular or justified reason. Those tribes who embody all the evil one could posses in human nature are on the other hand given a free pass. But Ghanaians in typical fashion will pretend this is not so. So maybe right off the batt, people might have had little, disguised tolerance for her. Is it fair? No. But that in my honest opinion is an underlying factor. When you live in a country where 50% of the nation is from one ethnic group and the other 50 is split between the rest, it makes for some funny dynamics. Nigeria is more evenly split as far as ethnic groups are concerned. So one group cannot hold the reigns all the time. That is my observation. That is why when a reasoned argument should be made, you instead hear things like Ewe girl! Which is ridiculous. Very ridiculous.

And I have to add that our people can be funny when they know you have come from abroad (especially the US) to resettle and you have a mind of your own. This is not just in Ghana. They are watching to see how you will address them. In fact they are waiting to sense that whiff of what they percieve to be arrogance (which in most cases is not) from you and they will want to bring you down a peg or two. How in your opinion do you think she handled this aspect of things Blackbutterfly? Genevieve NNaji when the Tulip saga burst said and I quote

"but if fans based in America, choose to shoot a movie and think because they are based in America I should abandon all my work ethics and policies that have kept me where I am for over 10 years and will continue to keep me at the top of my profession, then they must be deluded"

Genevieve is well accomplished and even she made the above statement. That is evidence that people have low tolerance for returnees who rub them off the wrong way.

And let me clear the air of a three year long cold war between you Blackbutterfly and myself. Things have been strained between you and I since I made one loose heart attack comment on a thread long gone by. I apologized but I think you never got over it. I beg you to let it go. I meant no harm.

By the way, who else has seen the movie and where are your reviews?

Dsampler do yourself a favour and stay out of Genevieve Nnaji's business, your reverse psychology is now stale. Forget its still working on some women here on, you are becoming trite and too predictable. What beats me is how people here on actually thinks you are on Genevieve payroll with these (dis)service you render. You claim to love Genny yet you never opened a discussion abt her being on Forbes Most Powerful African Celebrities list nor did you open any abt her being invited to the Fund raising event with great networking opportunities. You aren't even swift, and its suppose to be your A-game ain't it?

Often that not, you (Dsampler) have bashed several ppl Genny respects within and outside the industry, and importantly all you ever do is create a platform for naijarules member to lash her. Brilliant of you, you fooled me for long, but constantly going mum like whooped b!tch reveals you ain't true. What pleasure does this give you? How long do you intend to do these for? Can't you see all you do here (and wherever perhaps) cease to affect the brand, Genevieve Nnaji, even in the slightest way? Move on pronto... Go on and cast the demon within!

P.S Genevieve doesn't need to work with Leila and vice versa, there have always been many fishes in the water.
