I’d have been a footballer - Ras Kimono

For most music lovers, particularly raggae enthusiasts, the return of Rumba Dance Master, Ras Kimono portends a great relief.
The raggae artiste, who left the country for the United States of America about ten years ago told Daily Sun recently that he has returned to put smiles on the faces of his teeming fans across the country and in diaspora.

He promised to hit the market soon with his new album. According to the Onitsha Ugbo Delta–State born musician, he is set to release his latest work to get his teeming fans going even as he apologized to his fans for not hearing from him for quite something time.

Kimono spoke on his latest work, why he left the shores of the country, the music industry among many other things.

    Why I left Nigeria
I left the country for the United States of America because he who fights and runs away will leave to fight another day. However, I am back for good. I missed our motherland Africa. I missed my fans and I missed a lot. However, I must also say that staying out of the country has its own positive impact on me.

    Missing my fans
Yes, first and foremost, I have to apologize to my teeming fans for not hearing from me while I was away in to the United States of America. However, I want to assure them that I am back for good and very soon, they would hear from me because we are working on something that will gladden their hearts.
I want to tell them that we will soon come out with a bang because I need to reward them for their love and loyalty. Something is certaingly cooking and when it is done, they will be happy as we are not going to let them down.

    Nigerian music industry
The scope of the music industry in the country has widened a lot during my absence and I am happy for that. In fact, it is a welcome development seeing how big the industry has grown while I was away. I am really very happy because we are all agents of progress. I really feel good because we have a lot of musicians now who are making people happy and are also smiling to the banks.
I feel happy today because we have different brands of music such as R&B, Hip Up, High Life, Raggae among others, which has created wider opportunities for people to choose.

Life in the United States of America and Nigeria
My brother, there is no basis for comparism between life in the United States of America and Nigeria. Where do you start the comparism from? Over there you do not have the problem power supply and there is good network of roads and efficient health services. Here in Nigeria, it’s a different story for comparism.
Despite all these, Africa remains the best continent on earth. Our continent is the best. And there is no place like home. So, Africa is still a place to be.

    Outside music
Outside music, I would have been a sportman because I am naturally a sports person. I play football, I play tennis and I also play baskeball. Therefore, if I have not been a musician, I would have been a sportsman. It is either I became a basketball player or I would have been a footballer and that is why I recently visited the National Stadium in Surulere to give my support to the Nigerian Football Supporters towards mobilizing supports for the Super Eagles for junior World Cup.
