Red face Performing Arts Academy in Nigeria!

.......Doesn't it sound nice sef??

Seriously folks......we are here on Naijarules everyday, either reviewing movies or killing the actors in our posts cos of a grammatical error in a Nolly flick, bad custume, non-existent acting skills or what have you.......So what are we (Yes, i mean we!!!!) going to do about it?

I hear that there are only 2 training schools in naija at the mo'. One in Jos and the other in Lagos (???). Why?? There are so many young adults who can't afford to go to university or any higher institution for that matter, or those that finish secondary school and have to wait a year before they get through into school, and have talents in acting, singing etc but want to be trained first. Are we going to let these young people's talents waste because we are not daring enough?

What about setting up a performing arts academy, where people can be groomed/trained in acting, music, costuming and all else?

I know! I know!! Money matters??? If 2, 3 or 4 people come together to start something, it won't be too much burden on one person, shebi? Even if it is as small as one classroom to begin with.......

People, enough of talking talking and no action o! Even if we can't physically go to Nigeria to train these people, surely we can give towards the project or suggest ideas or supply training equipments?

99% Of new Nollywood stars are not trained-maybe because there's nowhere to get trained?? We have talents in Africa, people, and we are the most creative set of people in the world, i believe it very strongly! If we are not going to support starting something like this, friends, do we really have the right to complain when they dish us junk movies and feed us unbelievable things?? Is it fair??

Far or near, folks, anyone interested in this kind of thing, please leave your comments here. I know people who are passionate about this, and those that have the ability to train others, at that, but don't have what/all it takes to do it alone. So holla here please if you are interested...let's see where this takes us!

Only mouth, mouth, no dey sufficient o, my lovelies, its time for some actions abeg! Thank you all!

Personally I've been thinking about the institutes lately...asking the following questions

are they up to standard?
are they accredited?
and finally are they affordable?

But before we can even talk about the institutes and their training we must talk about the actor and actress pooling...(selection) for movies. Just like any college are the schools helping graduates find jobs?

or do they have to keep auditioning for shows like amstel to get their spotlight... recruiting agencies are really needed in naija...they can be the middle man between film school graduates and the movie makers..

This is my Ideal Diagram:

Student Graduates from Film School ----> Resume Sent to Recruiting Agency ------> Recruiting Agency reviews resume determines whether student is qualified if so adds student to database -------> Film Maker approaches agency wants to hire actors for new project --------> Agency searches database pulls students files reviews them with film maker -------> student hired

Brilliant idea darling! @the highlighted! But where is the agency na? Dem no dey!!!
Make we at least talk about setting up the film school first, and lets see how many people are willing to be a part of it, then we can take it forward to the agency part....Look how many people have contributed to this thread so far???? We want CHANGE indeed!

Ghana is a 45 minute flight away. National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI is about the best there is in west africa when it comes to film and television. Unfrtunately, with the filmmakers like ago koo squad and venus films colors colors movies, the graduates go to work for ad agencies or leave the country.

Welcome to National Film and Television Institute

About the highlighted, that is no problem at all........that can be sorted out in no time.

So, once we find "someone" and "someplace" to start.....na money matter go wan follow be that. Equipments, stationeries etc.....

Whats going to be the target student population? Would it be free? Would it be "just affordable"? Whats going to be the criteria for admitting people? How many people to start with? Who are we going to tcontact as external sponsors? All these and so many more need to be answered first o!

Uncle Vince, Oga Shols, Mr Takestyle, brother Filmdirector, Uncle Theforce, and co...where are ya?
