THE current self improvement of the home video industry by the practitioners, the FG's non-involvement notwithstanding, has entered a new phase.
This new phase is in the new deal, described as first of its kind where an international fashion outfit has veered into the sponsorship of stars of the home video industry.
The fashion house known as CWC, based in Rome, has just singed a new deal with one of Nigeria's star actor, Jim Iyke, to wear their designs in most of his films in a year's contract worth $50,000 to be paid in three instalments.
According to Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen who packaged the deal: "I have no doubt in my mind that with this step, CWC label will in no distant time become a world class outfit. Charity, they say, begins at home. CWC would have been able to pay any American actor to model their clothes but they decided to look homewards because they are aware that Nigerian movies are second to none in the world as at today.
Therefore, the choice was made, several issues were put into consideration until we decided on the new kid on the Nigerian movie block, Jim Iyke. His popularity, acceptance and demand is becoming so alarming, especially among CWC target consumers. The sponsorship deal covers TV commercials, posters, billboards, banners and backdrops. As you can see, CWC and Jim Iyke are a perfect match.
In his own speech, Frank Ogbemudia, the boss at CWC explains that the outfit started out in Rome after his tutelage at a world renowned fashion house in Italy. After the learning period, he registered the designing company as Christa World Collection (CWC) in honour of his daughter, Christabel.
The young man from Edo State who took a first degree from an Indian university before heading to Italy to do other things including fashion designing, says it is very challenging for a black man, especially a Nigerian, to set up a fashion house in Italy with all the negative publicity about Nigeria.
According to him, it is only perseverance that has seen him telling a success story today.
He says, Jim Iyke is a popular star actor especially where Nigerians are concerned. After watching his movies, we felt he is the perfect model to carry our name into the country's fashion circuit. Since we started the company, this is our first incursion into Nigeria and it is our hope that Nigerians will soon see that our designers measure up with others all over the world.
"We plan a fashion show in Nigeria very soon and we are also thinking of setting up a factory here. Our range of wears doesn't only fit Europeans. Our local and African designs are super.
In his own remarks, Jim Iyke thanked them, saying that of all the other good actors in the country, he was selected to be the torch bearer. He pledged his unalloyed support for CWC in its resolve to improve the movie and fashion industries. He also thanked his able director, Lancelot Imasuen, for finding him worthy of the responsibility.
The CWC, Lancelwealth Images and Jim Iyke fashion promotion deal will see the actor being clothed by CWC in all his movies for the year 2004.
