How can the government help the movie industry?

I know we have said it so many times around here and elsewhere that the Nigerian government is not doing anything for the movie industry. But what ideas are floating out there? Many of us are scattered across the world. What is the government doing in our different locations to push the movie industry to the next level?

The question is: has our movie industry asked for government assistance?. If yes, then the government should try and make sure that pirates are seriously dealt with.

Points are yet to the made later! Make I go rest come!!!

The govt might start by providing funds to establish infrastructures(eg.studios, film processing labs, new family-friendly cinema houses, professional training institutions).
The govt can also provide a mechanism to generate funds for moviemaking,at least until the private sector get their acts together and join in to boost the industry.
But i don't think it is healthy for the govt to get too deeply involved. This gotta be private sector thing mainly.

They should help with grants etc. so that filmmakers can get more funds for making movies. I don't know if the gov should really be in control of the industry, more of supporting it. If the filmmakers know that the gov will be paying for it all the time, then they will be come comfortable and won't try to work to make the movies great etc. they know they already have funding.

The govt might start by providing funds to establish infrastructures

(eg.studios, film processing labs, new family-friendly cinema houses, professional training institutions).

That will be up to the filmmakers to come up with this, but it would help if the gov would crack down on piracy and find a way to educate the filmmakers on ways to get legal repesentation for entertainment. Or they can provide the funds for a studio and give them a certain time to generate the money themselves, but if it doesn't the gov takes the funding away. So it will be up to the filmmaking community, studio execs. to make the movie insustry make money.

But i don't think it is healthy for the govt to get too deeply involved. This gotta be private sector thing mainly.

You are right about that, if they are too deeply involved then they might try to control it. That might be bad with having someone like that woman on the censors board.

Agreed! the govt should not be seriously involved but at least offer some assistance like my bros rightly pointed out.

Movie industry is meant to stand on it's own, and not to be taken fully by govt.

On a more serious note, the govt should try and establish proffessional training institute. I believe talent without proper direction fumbles.
