Genevieve Nnaji celebrating Breast Cancer Day in Sierra Leone

In Sierra Leone - Today is Breast Cancer Day
By David A Jabati Jnr.

"Breast Cancer is real! Get enlightened! Not Frightened!" This is the theme of the Breast Cancer awareness raising campaign currently championed by the Pink Charity Fund in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

October has been declared as the breast cancer awareness month in Sierra Leone, and today, Friday October 27, will mark the official launching of the breast cancer awareness campaign at the Miatta Conference Hall, Brookfields, Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The campaign is, according sources, sponsored by the Sierra Leone Cement Corporation Limited (LEOCEM).

Today’s event would be characterized by a press conference and other side-shows, all in the bid to raise awareness on the reality of breast cancer. It is expected that today’s programme will be chaired by the Acting Director General of Medical Services, Dr. Arthur Williams. Serving as special guest and patron is the Nigerian film icon, Genevieve Nnaji.

The Pink Charity Fund was founded by Sierra Leonean-born Isha Tejan-Cole of Media5ive, in collaboration with Milly Terry of the United States of America (USA), who is also reported to be working with African American Breast Awareness Organization, as well as Esther Wilson in the UK

The Pink Charity Fund will, according to report, work in association with The Ministry of Health and Sanitation in Sierra Leone to provide medical facilities like a mammogram chemotherapy and radiology equipments. "The Pink Charity Fund is timely because these breast cancer machines are not currently available at Government hospitals in Sierra Leone, and cancer is a very real killer disease…," states Supreme Inc.

Sources also have it that the Pink Charity Fund would, on the 12th of January 2007, host what they refer to as "The Pink Ball fund raising dinner and dance" at the Country Lodge complex, Hill Station, west of Freetown. On that very day, a mammogram machine, which is used to test for breast cancer, would be unveiled to the public.

Hope she has a good time in Sierra Leone.
We (Sierra Leoneans) love her and we always appreciate her visits.
