Post Artus Frank shines again, and asks Who Loves Me

Venus Films Production, headed by Abdul Salam Mumuni, is proving how prolific it is once again with a new movie titled Who Loves Me.

Who Loves Me is a story by Abdul Salam Mumuni and the screenplay was done by Phil Efe Bernard. Directed by Frank Raja Arase, the film features some of the most easily recognisable faces on screen in Ghana at the moment including Jackie Appiah and Majid Michel.

The suspense-filled movie is about Chantel Ofori Annan, played by Jackie Appiah, an heiress to a big fortune. She can afford anything, has a retinue of maids at her command and a loving family that would give her anything she desires.

Chantel is, however, diagnosed of a weak heart and given only a few months to live. Her chances of survival appear to be slim but she glows with some hope when David (Majid Michel) enters the scene and promises to make every second of her time count.

Another guy enters the fray (Artus Frank) and claims to be Chantel’s true love. A love triangle therefore ensues, making Chantel to question whether what she feels for David is love or just gratitude.

Previous works by Venus Films Production include Princess Tyra, My Mother’s Heart, Beyonce, Divine Love, Agony of Christ, The King is Mine and Chelsea.

What kind obsession thingy with Majid in movies lately? One movie its Nadia he's obsessed with and paint all around town the next movie, it's Jackie he's crying like a baby simply because he's in love!!! Majid please...you are soo sweet it's hard to convince people that you are a ladies's second fiddle.

I finally watch this movie which is considered Artus Frank first "international" movie! Will come back with comments...

what movie is this? everybody was crying from majid, kalsoum, rama, jackie, etc. and what is the moral of the movie? to learn what? i thought just recently majid was painting nadia and was in love with her, then in the next instant, he paints jackie and is in love again. haba venus why? if it is not sex, then it is rich man/woman cannot marry a poor man/woman. is that the only storyline venus knows?
i couldn't stand ricky koraa. rama was good as always. where is khami? jackie was more than a mami water in this move with wig. was it necessary for all of them to go to the airport? and the maidservant who also went to the airport, couldn't she have changed her servant's attire before going to the airport?

    Arrow Review

All good things come to an end, but the question is, was it ever good to begin with? I didn’t watch this movie, and I didn’t need to. The tiny bits I absorbed from a streaming site told the tale. I don’t condone streaming unless it supports filmmakers somehow, but due to Venus Films’ deceptive distribution methods, I have no choice.

If Chelsea gets lost at sea, than Who Loves Me goes MSL by hitting the ocean’s surface. The movies aren’t getting better, they’re getting worse. Abdul Salam Mumuni (CEO of V.F.P) has managed to create some of Africa’s hottest stars, but in the same breath, seems like the very force working towards their demise. Is it his fault? Maybe not.

Making movies is art, art is business. An actor must begin to see it for them self that a manager, agent, or company can and will take them so far. Then it’s up to that artist to seek better management/support while parting ways with the former. It’s nothing personal, it’s business. Actors are artists and evolving commodities, and the monetary aspect of making movies compels some producers to exploit talented and reluctant people.

    Jackie Appiah...

Not impressed. Wasn't the worst I've seen but alot of it was just nonsensical.

This movie had me all confused like a drunk on crack. There were so many things that had me baffled. Let me list:

*** At Chantelle and David's first meeting after the restaurant episode why is there no mention of their first meeting and the billboards? Is it supposed to be a hallucination or what? I found that very bizarre. You have been searching for this guy all over town and now you come face to face with him you don't think to ask him why he has been posting billboards of your face around the city? Then the next minute your are all pally pally visiting him at home and you still haven’t talked about how you met.

*** Chantelle supposedly has 72 hours to live because of a hole in the heart, but she is looking great, not a hint of tiredness… NOTHING. She has just 3 days to live and not a lick of pain? I DON'T BUY IT!

*** When David gets drunk and breaks his leg at the time that Chantelle is dying in hospital there is a scene where she walks into his hospital room, kisses him on the forehead and says sorry. It is weird because both David and his mother's reactions are minimal so I assumed that Chantelle was walking into the room as either a ghost of a hallucination on David's part as Davis is engaging with her but his mother isn't THEN outside we see a hospital staff approach her outside and then David's mother comes to speak with her. HUH? I really don't get what is going on at this point.

*** The idiocy continues. We see David's mother slit her wrists in the hotel bathroom. A note is then found where she says that she wants Chantelle to have her heart. What kind of nonsense? Your son is certifiable and now you are going to go and commit suicide and leave him in the hands of a woman he barely knows? Nonsense

*** It is funny in Nollywood every day people are dying of abortions but then when there is a heart transplant there is no talk of the risk of Chantelle's body rejecting the heart which we know is quite a common issue.

*** Even the arrival of Ricky Chantelle's first love is a bit like HUH? We have not even heard his name until he arrives at her party uninvited. So it feels very much like improvisation. Now one glance of him and she is ready to dash the man that she claims she loooves so much. His mother has died for her and she goes to insult him by offering to give him half her possessions. It doesn't fit. From the person that we know Chantelle to be, this sort of whimsical behaviour doesn't fit and there is no development to tell us how she became this way.

    Chantelle tells her Grandma,

"Loving him has gone out of me." HUH? SINCE WHEN? You were just at the party looking all loved up and singing his praises now you decide you don't love him. The story is not well thought out at all. To top it off they have Ricky breezing in talking bout,

"The psychologists recommend that I leave the country for a while." Oh please!

***In the credit's Jackie is credited at Chantelle and Yasmin. I was hoping... Please please let this be a mistake and let this not be another twin story. That will take this movie from mediocre to awful. As it ended there was mention of Jasmin so no doubt if Jasmin will be revealed in the Part 3 that is to follow.

In the very last scene Chantelle's "dying wish" is for her twin sister to come back home to take care of their Grandmother since she is getting old .... So yes this is another one of those twin movies

This movie wasn't all that and a bag of chips

    Storyline

Did Dave express his feelings to Chantelle? I for one dont remember the scene where he did so. If I were Chantelle I would interpret the relationship with David as a friendship.

I guess it was the job of the audience to assume that they became an item in 72 hours??????

Daves mother killed herself so that he could be with Chantelle........ Did Chantelle know this reason for her suicide or did she think it was a thank you gift for paying for Daves Mothers drugs and standing up for her when she got owned by that rude nurse.

How did Daves mother know that her heart would be a match for Chantelle ?....how unrealistic....dont they need to do some blood work n tests ?

    Wardrobe

What the hell was Jackie wearing, in the scene where she went to Daves house for the first time ??? Epic Failure

Bell Bottom Jeans....with a Knee length dresss ????

    YIKES

This movie should have been titled 'WTH' cause I didn't get it.
Too many questions which I can't begin asking cause it would take all day. Is this a test drive or teaser for the real movie still to come out or what???????

Just when I was starting to get impressed by Ghana's film industry....then I saw this movie.....this movie drained all the energy out of me.....this is one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen....Majid played a one dimensional charater, he was crying in almost all of his scenes....the story was poorly crafted...plot had too many holes..I'll rate this one a 3/10
