Nigeria's Nollywood to set up Gambia's movie industry

Francis Duru, pioneer member of Nigeria’s vibrant film industry popularly known as Nollywood, and interim chairman of the Abuja chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, has said nollywood will help set up Gambia's movie industry.

Duru disclosed this Tuesday at the end of his visit here as part of preparations ahead of the visit of Nigerian comedians, Osuofia, Aki and Pawpaw, Mama Gee, Akinga, among others, to participate in the celebration of President Yahya Jammeh's military take over of 22 July.

According to him, the Gambia has progressive characters and great tourism potentials, noting that the Nollywood can produce and help set up a standard movie industry in the Gambia.

Mrs. Esther Audu, Nigeria's High Commissioner to the Gambia, said Gambians were people versed in the art of painting, drumming and carving.

Audu welcomed the Nigerian culture blending with the Gambian culture, noting this would be of mutual benefit to both countries.

She described the new partners as another dimension in areas of cooperation between the two countries, saying the two countries were collaborating in the areas of health, education, agriculture among others.

Bia!..... how come you sey inside my thought now?

Nollywood should learn how to stand first, before lifting another crawling baby up.

Yes, but then teaching others often helps the teacher to learn as well. At least they are trying to help them get started. Frankly it's up to them to look at the mistakes that Nollywood has made and is making while they are building as well and avoid them.

I guess it's going to be called **deep sigh** GAMBYWOOD?

TVWriter, your suggestion might work if the people themselves knew what the mistakes were, like someone said, this is a classic case of the blind leading the blind.

i was just sad when i read somewhere on the internet that the Delta state movie industry is called Dollywood. i was just too weak to muster up any indignation.

and since Ghana has snagged Gollywood, i am guess that either Gallywood or Gambywood will be the name of The Gambia's movie industry.

One day an industry will rise up and hold claim to "Firewood"
