I am tired of all these relaxes, i am seriously thinking going natural, but not low cut natural, but twist like Dakore Egbuson's neat and nice twist.

I am so done with relaxed hair.

the thought of cutting my hair (which is about chin length) is scary , but one of these days i'll just Britney Spears, take them shears and shed my hair.

Is anyone contemplating natural as well.

My mom thinks i shouldnt cos a womans pride and beauty includes her hair, am like, have twist will be my hair, Relaxed hair is NOT MY HAIR. I really truly admire Dakore's Natural hair. I dont think i am bold to go Joke Silva Style yet.

Does anyone h ere have natural hair, if so how long you had it and how is the maintenance, cos my main reason getting rid of my relaxed is the maintenance (i am sick of it) and also the hairs in my bathroom, i hate seeing hair in my bathroom sink (even my own) - i am always picking picking and cleaning my bathroom floor to get rid of lil hairs here and there.

And besides i see ppl with natural, hot comb it and it looks so beautiful like a relax.

akos i have natural locks(thats whats its called not twists)and its cool to maintain and stressless.just use the right product and ur hair will glow.i wear my locks short and spiky,and i trim it down when its getting too long cos i dont like long hair.i started my locks in 2004 but cut it when i had babym cos my hormones were acting up and my hair was growing at an unbeleiveable rate but i cudnt stand wearing weaves and putting relaxer on my hair no more so i let the naural hair grow back and i locked it again and girl beleive me when i say my hair rocks.u can decide to put some hair color in to give it a glamourous look or u can wear it black,the important thing is use the right lock products and u aint gon regret it!

I have twists rigt now, not locks, so my hair is 85% natural. Before that I had baby curls, I've had short hair for 4 years now, just easier to maintain. I will tint it coppery brown for my next twist session. You're right about colouring giving it glam I dont think I can let it grow though either as twists or locks, I'll only maintain it short

With twists, they use a comb to twist it, then hold it with a special gel. If water touches it it all goes to shyte....you need to redo it evry two weeks. After a while, if your haor g4ows longer, then the twists becomes locks and there is no need for the gel, then ya get locks. Sho get?

Akos, join the club. I'm going natural this year. The last time i relaxed was in february. Now i've fixed an appointment to cut off all the relaxed hair and then be completely natural. Right now, i do cornrows and sometimes just carry afro. I cant wait to cut it though, so that everything can be completely natural. I'd like to do some temporay locs, and twists too. If i find the right saloon, right now, i do my hair myself. Before you cut, you can braid for a few months so that your natural hair grows out.

Going natural gives you a lot of freedom to be creative with your hair. My only regret is that i didnt start much earlier and i let some stupid hairdresser bully me into relaxing my hair this year, cos i had already made up my mind late last year to go natural.

You should. I think not everyone's scalp/hair is tough enough for relaxing over and over, year in, year out. I went natural last year, chopped my hair off, much to the hairdresser's dismay but I have had no regrets. The only thing I'd say is decide on what you are going to do with it before cutting. I didn't have any plans and after my hair was chopped, there were times when I didn't know what to do with it so I had to keep it under wraps (with scarves...I swear peeps thought I was Ethopian minus the figure).

Also my friend advised me to have it threaded during the weekends and I tried that, it came out soft and it appeared lengthier so I'm going to be running around with me little 'fro henceforth.

No more relaxer for me. My hair used to be nice and full and then I messed it up by relaxing it. I am going natural. I have braids right now. When I take them out, I will braid it again or have an afro. Heaven knows that my relaxer days are over. My scalp became so sensitive due to the relaxer, I wish I never started relaxing my hair in the first place. So, Atlakos, I am with you. Natural hair all the way!

I can't believe I haven't replied to this post!!! Me wey don dey natural since 2003.

Okay Akos, my long story....

Just joking; don't want to bore you silly... grew my perm out late 2002 by braiding, braiding, braiding, with extensions. When I felt it was long enough for two strand twists, I cut off the remaining perm and since then it's been natural all the way so much so that I do my twists myself.

It's liberating, I can tell you and no more sore scalp!! I still braid with extensions - I try to minimise hot-combing/blow drying by plaiting it with thread at night and taking it out in the morning. Not too much corn-row so you don't begin to lose your hair in the front.

A little digression - Kikis & Olofofogal,

locs = dreadlocks like Dakore, which start off as two strand twists and locks after six months depending on who does it for you.

twists = two strand twists, where you take two strands of your hair and twist them into a rope-like braid; or the one that Kikis described with gel. Incidentally, the two-strand twist can be done without gel (in fact it's best that way) and it still last for six weeks plus.

So Akos, what are you waiting for???

Tam-tam nwa, abeg i'd like to know more about the 2 strand twists, how is it done? I saw pictures of it, but i'd like to know how it's done.

There is nothing like natural hair, it's so liberating. I've had natural hair for about 2 years now. I cut it short and kept cutting it for a few years before deciding to let it grow last year. As for styles there are many; I now have a lovely afro and believe me it has maximum effect when you walk into a room. Sometimes i twist it and keep it like that for about a week or two then i unravel the twists and keep it like that (uncombed) for about a week. At times i cornrow the front and leave the rest out or just tie a scarf round my hairline or have one or two afro puffs but my favourite is the afro, i find a lot of people both male and female compliment me on my decision to go natural. Just ensure it is well moisturised and shampood. Akos, go for it you won't regret it.
