So I finally saw this last weekend. At first, I was bored. I watched "MY Baby" very recently, so the similarities were not lost on me. From one fight scene to the next, I started to yawn. However, I started to get into it with her sassy daughter - that girl can act o, chei. The little girl is so good. And Alice started to grow on me, with her long suffering husband. Some people were redundant like the niece from Lagos (played by Nkiru), but otherwise, casting was good. The beating the teacher thing was funny, as was the masquerade thing, though the scene was anticlimactic. She attacked too quickly. I had expected her to perpetuate the charade and put laxatives in the food or something.
I liked it, it was funny, but I was disappointed by the ending. The explanation for her behavior made me sigh in pure disappointment. I was like "what the.....!" And the cultural implications of the explanation given for a man doing housework was not lost on me.
I think you will say - just shut up and enjoy the movie, but I have watched so many nigerian movies now that the novelty has worn off. Now I look for something deeper and I am not finding it. It was funny (in part), natural (good use of language), realistic ( the setting), but the story was not particularly original, or particularly smart. I was sooooo disappointed by that cliched ending.
Not bad though.

Funmo, i totally agree with you.
after all the hype, i started looking for this movie, so imagine my surprise when i went to south carolina this weekend and guess what movie my aunt had!! ALICE MY FIRST LADY
i sat to watch and i can't begin to describe my disappointment. after all the hype, it fell flat for me!
i'm about to watch the concluding part but i don't hold much hope.
there were a few funny scenes but i thought i was going to be rolling on the floor for half the movie.

Ok..I finally watched this movie last week and I liked it. I thought it was funny but the hype from naijarules made it a bit watery for me, so it kinda didn't meet my expectations. I had high high hopes! Ehen, so people, when we review movies, can we please try to avoid revealing details?
After reading all the reviews here, I knew what to look for. I knew there was a masquerade scene coming, i knew a teacher was beaten up etc- I don't know how everyone else feels but I want to watch my movies with at least a bit of suspense and with no bias whatsoever.
Having said that, Chinny is a very good actress and yes, she is a mini-patience ozokwor. She directed the movie well too. All the acts were fantastic apart from that younger Chinny, her mother and father. They were like reciting their lines with little or no emotions, i mean-Pleaaaaaaasssssssseee!!
Alice's daughter(Angela) needs to be picked on a bit more, she is really really good and one to watch out for.
All in all, a very entertaining watch. I laughed a lot and i totally loove some of the dialogues-especially where Alice was involved.
7.5/10 Recommended!
