Did I hear you say Igbos started Nigerian movie businesses?? NO NO NO. Long before the very first Igbo actors/actresses started, there were Yoruba films, its just that they were not widespread and advanced. Where you wan put Oyin Adejobi, Ishola Ogunsola, Hubert Ogunde, Baba Sala, etc.? Yorubas were the first film-makers.

God bless u omo oko em missuju no offense but i no tink say u know una history correct because like omo oko has rightfully said na yoruba start movie the only reason igbo movies flood the market is because they make like what 10 movies a week again very sorry to say but out of those ten movies 7 of them are crap becasue to me they all have the same story line:ritual, childlessness, village, money, witchcraft and other stuff that depicts ibo to look like evil people which they are difinitely not and you have to first sensor the movie first for the actors rmd, stella, stephania o, genevive, ramsey, jm iyke, omotola jalade and that's it the rest to me are jjc who have no clue what they are doing and half of them can't even speak english correctly.there are more actors/actresses in yoruba movie i mean for ex a thread asked to list five top actors and actresses and people were listing 10 in igbo movies you will have to rack your brain really hard to find 7. don't get me wrong there are some good ibo movies like all my life, private sin and so on. im not trying to say yoruba movies don't have flaws because trust me they do but their stories make sense and teach lesson and also entertain you they are not just an excuse to make money they actually put time into it.
i'm not trying to put igbo movies down because they are really do their thing but take it from someone who watches both yoruba and igbo, there is a big difference. i'm sorry if anyone feels offended by my comment but i am merely just sharing how i see it a beg please no vex o my people.

Still Boss
My comment on this whole of issue regarding to who controls or which people own the movie industry,or which language sells more than the other is just to me a stupid idea.Ibi like say una don forget the time way na only Indian and Chinnes film way every body dey rush to watch,if you can remember the thing way almost Indian film actors and actress and the producers dey show in almost all their films that time na only Love films while China films only show more fighting films like karat and judo, this films are all based on the history of nation, what the passed through and what they are known for,for instance India,in the world, thier women are regarded as one of the most excellent in beauty,Chinko people dey only show us karat and takwando because in their country almost every body there is a master in carat, they all do it just like a national pride.
For Nigerian films, while most of igbo films are more of rituals, and village thing is because this is what every body see or hear everyday, those people or countries i mentioned above are now showing more meaninful films, meaning that we are all trying compared to those peaple who have been in the industry for more than a decade now,Nigeria just dey start and see where we dey now,the world entertainment industry talk say after Holly Wood and Bolly wood na Nolly Wood,as i dey see things ,in future ,Nigeria go pass all this people, because any business wey Nigeria dey inside most grow big day by day ,but also as we all know say Igbo people na business people, and any business wey dem dey inside the grow faster than anything,we should not forget the blessing wey God give every body,na gift wey their God give them, but in my opinion make unajoin hand and build this money making machine(film indutry).this na my own say ,please if i offene you ,a beg sorry :

Blah blah blah
This Is A Pointless Thread. Kapice?
Who cares who started what? The bottom line is how far we as a nation have gone in the entertainment industry.
It's story telling people! The Indians have it locked down because you can perfectly understand what is going on in theri movies with or without the freaking subtitles.
Obviously,Yoruba peeps will enjoy a movie in Yoruba, wether or not they have PHD in English while the Igbo peeps will definitely feel at home with a movie done entirely in Igbo...any argument against this FACT is hereby dismissed as POINTLESS AND UNACCEPTABLE.
NOW CAN SOMEBODY CLOSE THIS THREAD.

Igbo movies will be very easily welcomed and assimilated by the Ibo audience. Realistically, the Ibo audience in most cases will not have to go through the torture of listening to a foreign language, synthesis it, understand it, and then absorb it. This is a very long system that goes through the human brain before what we call "enjoyment" or "non- enjoyment" is attained. It will also be easier for the Ibo actors/actresses act more naturally when acting in their own language.
