The Rating List For Reviewing Naija Movies
I have compiled the final list consisting of 12 criterions that we will be basing our ratings of naija movies.
This will enable us to rate them a lot more accurately and comprehensibly.
The list is made up of 10 different criterions,with two serving as reserves,making the total criterions to be 12.The chosen 10 will depend on each movie and in what genre it is.But the number of criterions must always be 10 in number per movie because the rating 10 points max.
The "DUAL" criterions(ex.Acting/dialogue delivery)will have dual ratings,meaning 5 point each(ex.5 for acting and 5 for dialogue delivery,making 10)
By the dual criterions,one part can score for ex.3,and the other 3,together making 6/10.

LEXICON:-
CASTING
The rating will be based on how the actors fit their respective roles.
How comfortable they are in their characters.
In short,the right actor for the right role.
Rating:- 10 points max.
ACTING/DIALOGUE DELIVERY
The acting part should involve actions only.
Facial expressions,interpretations of emotions,gestures,movements etc.All those things that qualifies as good and convincing acting.Rating:5 points
The dialogue delivery part,we will be looking for smooth and eloquent flows of actors.They must be intelligible,easy to understand the lines delivered.5 points.
DIALOGUE
We will be looking for strong use of,style,class,short and straight to the point,conveyance of all the needed informations to help move the plot forward in a progressive fashion.
Rating:10 max
CONCEPT/EXPLOITATION
This is all about the storyline itself.The script/screenplay.
With the concept,we rate by how original and creative it is.Rating:1-5
The exploitation of that concept will also get a rating of 1-5.
PRODUCTION VALUE
We will be looking at the sets,locations,props and requisites.Do they fit the scenes/sequences?
Do they make the movie look good and realistic to the story?So on and so forth.
I am sure you guys know what to look for here.
Rating:1-10
MUSIC/SCORING
With the music part,we rate the various soundtracks.
Do they merge well with the plot,or out of place?
Pirated foreign cuts gets the thumbs down,ofcourse.
Rating:1-5
The scoring is about the instrumental music used to emphasize moods as the plot progresses,and where and how they are placed in the movie soundtrack.
By moods,i mean,happy,sad,relaxed,danger,tension etc.How precisely are these moods emphasized by the music.
Does the scoring helps tell the story effectively,or you find it quite obnoxious,irritating and distractive?

COSTUMES/MAKE-UP
I don't think i have to explain this one.The ladies know what this is about.
5 points maximum rating for each.
VISUAL/SOUND EFFECTS
The visual FX gets a max of 5 points rating.
The sound FX gets max of 5 points rating.
We all know what to look for here.If a movie has neither of the two,they are best left out and replaced with some other criterion.
If only one of the two is present in a flick(ex.sound FX),it is rated with 1-10 points.
Sound FX involves,voice overs,voice on telephones,gunshots,crash sounds,nature sounds,etc.
How accurate and convincing are they?
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE
This is the overall effect of the movie on you personally.
Were you entertained?
Were you drawn into the plot?
Did the movie make you "suspend your disbelief" and draws you into the events on the screen,turning you into a voyeur.
Rating.1-10
CINEMATOGRAPHY
This constitutes the camera shots,angles,moves.Lightings of the sets,scene coverages.
The look of each shot,can you see everything in front of the camera well?Can you see the natural skin tones of the performers,the designs on their costumes,the tiles designs on the wall?
Are the scenes too dark(underexposure),or too bright(overexposure).PHOTOGRAPHY in short.
Rating:1-10
EDITING
This involves how everything is put together.How shots are selected,cut and put together.
How the scenes and sequences flow,smooth or jerky?
Transitions from scenes to scenes,sequences to sequences.Smooth or not?
Extra points for good and creative style here please!
Rating:1-10
So once again,from the list of 10 criterions,we give the overall rating by knowing the average of the ratings.
Ex.
A movie scores 5 points in each of the criterion,which makes it 5+10= 50
Then 50 is divided by the 10 criterions and equals 5.
So that particular movie get overall rating of 5/10.
I will open a separate thread for this in the "yoruba movie",and igbo movie" forums and make them a sticky,so that if anyone needs the list,he or she can go there and do cut and paste to make things easier,instead of having to write the whole list every time a review of a movie is made
