Is 'American Gangster' really all that 'true'?

Maybe this is why it didn't get too many nominations?

I wasnt expecting any nominations for American Gangster and RubyDee was suprise nomination for me.I'm glad there is no room for the big boys and girls this year though. I mean like Denzel, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Ridley Scott, Brad Pitt.
In as much as i would have loved Johnny Depp to win it this year, Daniel Day Lewis deserves it more.

Well the precursor to the Oscars, the Screen Actors Guild(SAG) awards was held last night, and most memorable wins included:

Best Supporting actress in a drama-Ruby Dee for "American Gangsta"

Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem-"no country for old men"

Best Actor in a leading role(drama): Daniel Day Lewis-"There will be blood"

Best Actress in a leading role: Julie Christie- "Away from her"

Best Ensemble cast(The SAG equivalent of Best picture!)-"No country for old men"

Very possibly the eventual winners at the oscars in those categories?

BTW Soprano stars Golfodino and the actress wife won again..And why did "The office" pip "Entourage" for best ensemble comedy series???:

Daniel Day Lewis dedicated his "best Actor" award to the late Heath Ledger. In his emotional speech, he recalled Heath's role in Monster's ball" and "Brokeback Mountain",and paid tribute to the actors immense talent.

RIP Ledger(I'll never forget when I first encountered him in "10 things I hate about you with Julia Stilles!!)..it was so sad when they ran through the list of those actors that passed away for the year, Heath was at the end, obviously hastily added. I'm really saddened by this young actor's death!!!

Ruby Dee (as well as her late husband Ossie Davis) are way overdue for an oscar but not for her 20 mins appearance in Gangster.

Nonetheless, she is due an oscar and i hope she wins. I mean what else is new, When did oyibos ever give blacks oscar for movies worth giving (apart from one or two e,g Denzel/Glory and Sidney Poitier/?). The ones they have to give they dont give, and the ones they dont have to give they give.

NO COUNTRY almost turns draggy for me. The only thing in the movie is the gritty brutality and how the main xters never knew each other but want to kill or escape from each other. The story almost has no moral value, no concise direction and it ends abruptly.

    Your welcome...

Although the Academy is notorious for giving people (of all colors) Oscars for performances that were not their best..

Best Actor in a leading role(drama): Daniel Day Lewis-"There will be blood"

Best Ensemble cast(The SAG equivalent of Best picture!)-"No country for old men"

Very possibly the eventual winners at the oscars in those categories?

BTW Soprano stars Golfodino and the actress wife won again..And why did "The office" pip "Entourage" for best ensemble comedy series???:
    Don't forget Queen Latifah!!

Who won "Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries" for her work in the HBO film "Life Support"....
