Question Do African Parents....

..have as much control of their kids as they used to back in the days?I was watching Maury Povich today and some girls had gone totally haywire...hooked on sex and thinking their bodies can get them whatever they want...some as young as 14......as I watched in disgust one thing came to mind:Economics. Also,it didn't help that these women weren't married so there was no man to keep things in control.I was wondering,if that mother were African, she'd have slapped the living shege outta the youngster disgracing her on national tv...then I thought again...hmm..am I so sure?

If they were in Nigeria, perhaps. I can just see it now. The presenter will slap the youngster on national tele, and we the people will say, "Well done Marinu Poti. Oloshi omo ti ko ni eko!" Try that down here and you surely will be having your next meal at Her Majesty's convenience.

What do you expect from a child who watch her mum smoking pot and getting knocked out on whiskey everyday. there is a slight different from the ones in Nigeria because pple over there know what shame is and image matters a lot to them and It takes a street to raise a child over there. Though some mum of these days are not fit to be a mother. The family still drive some sanity into those kids. But when they are gone to colledge around age 18-20 is another story in Nigeria these day.

Being promiscuous has nothing to do with being Nigerian or American. Its a literacy and parenting issue. Geez.. many young girls in Nigeria are getting their daily dose of boys 'jons' either in the house or behind unfinished building walls..
And for the boys.. its just another adolescence recreational activity...

The difference in Nigeria and here is that culturally, no girl will be boasting around about how many man she handle in a day or week... Its almost like just not many people will go around boasting around gay sex in Nigeria but their tons of same sex creepers if you take time to find out.

Btw, talking of gays in Naija, if you are a good looking man, you can be hit on now in Naija by these sisi boys... My older cousin went for a swim in Ikeja Airport hotel and he came back telling me about some boy hitting on him by the pool... and it was literal not just some gestures.

Promiscousity in this day and age is almost everywhere. In the developed the world, it is the excess of freedom of speech and attitude plus the society's parental discipline policy that render parent powerless in terms of controlling their children. I have known few Naijas spent days in jail for discpline their children where in naija it is nothing but normal. While on the other hand some parents are not fit to be parents or they themselves are babies.
To me I believe that the American society has literally giving power to the children over their parents, they are getting bolder and outrageous and it is sad, I fear for the upcoming generation.

In Nigeria, despite the culture and heavy discipline, promiscousity is growing at an alarming rate like Aristo, a refined prostitution is now a norm, something that was once an abomination, is now celebrated, a way of belonging, survival. University is now most parent's nightmare especially for gurls cos it is no longer a place for literacy but more or less a breeding arena for aristo HNDs....most well brought up youths are being rubbed off by this life style. One thing for sure, at this moment naija pikin no get that kind liver as of the americans.......

Though, I can't say a thirteen year old in Nigeria would be bold enough to disrespect his or her parent on tv but this action happens in Naija just like it does over here, only that over here kids are bold and are not ashamed of it. You may beat the living day light out of your kid but would still do what he or she wants to do (at least on the down low). Just take a look at college students in Nigeria.....

It all boils down to choices. When you're thirteen or fourteen at the back of your mind you know that if you do shit, your parents can at anytime throw you out of the house and you're on the streets and so you behave yourself. I mean let us face it, its not the beatings that kept us from unruliness, it was the comfort and security that did it.
All these little children, know at the back of their heads that if their parents kick them out the government will take care of them and that is why they act up and when their parents kick them, threaten to call 911.

I read a fantastic book one time "Lullabies for little criminals" its a must read, deals with underage sex and children growing up before their time. I just think its outrightly wrong for 14 yr olds to have sex, I mean when you're 14 you want to wear short shorts and chew bubble gum and ask for money to buy freezies from the grocery store, and paint your nails pink because they're cute, not talk to your friends about blow jobs and how many boys you've slept with.

Its just wrong

..so...if..let's say..U were a relative of the said parent(singular) in the US,what would you do?Worse is the fact that the parents seem too powerless to shake these kids into reality.I think if the parent were economically stable, they would have some level of control.I think the kids figure that they have nothing to lose by not listening to their parents because there are no priviledges to be withdrawn....a lose-lose situation....but then again,I know single parents who still have control of their kids so...do the parents share majority of the blame here or are they just handcuffed by the laws in this country?
