I do know of situations where man1 met the woman first, but his friend dated her before him. This situation has never happened to me, but I do understand it.

For the bolded- why is it off limits? The reasoning is what I am after. Is it the idea that people might perceive you as having wanted her while in the relationship, the idea of having your friend's left overs, or you think you would have to choose between the best friend or new girl?

As for the second scenario, if the second guy knew the lady before but did not date her why then would he pursue after the friend don enter gate?

I always say, there is no possible way for two best friends to date the same girl-one's feeling must not have been genuine (either the first or second). Because there is no way you can continue the relationship with both. Either the best friend relationship suffers or chuck of the woman as a love you will never experience. LOl-what do you say when the other ask you how is Ms. X and she is lying right next to you after some nice sex-be rest assured he knows the feeling Or how do you talk about your sexual experiences when your boy been there-probably knows more about her than you or even if I am the girl, when the best friend comes over I would not know how to act.
