Nigeria Police Attacks Peaceful Protesters in Kano!

Following a peaceful protest that started around noon on Jan 4th at the Silver Jubilee square in Kano that lasted up to the early hours of Thursday, a battalion of Nigerian police forced has attacked protesters!
Nearly 5000 people, mostly young men gathered in square now nicknamed, Liberation square where they were protesting the removal of Fuel subsidy by the federal government & the attendant hike in fuel prices.
Unconfirmed reports are that at least 50 people have been injured & 1 person shot dead in the attack which took place around 1:30am on Thursday. Armed policemen were reported to have driven through the crowd firing teargas & live ammunition.
    We continue to monitor developments.

All I know is that when politicians go into government they look like the he-goat which has just finished a cross-country trek to the city market, but when they reach mid-term they are like the show horse in the emir's palace.
