The story of the NAIRA

The history of Nigeria since October 1, 1960 when it attained “flag independence” has been full of wonders. The deterioration in the life of the nation in all areas of human endeavour shows that the “beautiful ones are truly not yet born”.

Inflation started in Nigeria with the introduction of the naira in 1973. Since 1974, when the unnecessary Udoji Award was paid to workers, the inflationary trend has gone from bad to worse. In 1973, N2 was equivalent to the old Nigerian pound. Suffice to say that a pound before 1973 was able to feed a family of six for two weeks.

They should try and sort the ARABIC writings on the NAIRA notes............ and replace them with writings we Nigerians know how to read.

I dont remember ARABIC being any of the languages we speak in Nigeria.... and yet we have so many languages like HAUSA, YORUBA and IGBO e.t.c.

Did any one detest those dirty, smelly, rumpled 5Naira notes? I just couldnt stand them and they were mainly used in Churches as offering to God. Pweew.
