WOMAN CONVICTED OF ENSLAVING 11-YEAR-OLD CHILD IN MARYLAND EXPELLED FROM CAMEROON TO SERVE JAIL TIME HERE
Theresa Mubang fled from D.C. area following her criminal conviction
WASHINGTON, D.C.—An American who fled to Cameroon after being convicted last year for her role in a scheme involving the slavery of an 11-year-old child has been expelled from Cameroon and returned to the United States to serve a lengthy prison sentence.

US Police Arrest Escapee Convict In Bamenda

Theresia Mubang, a 42-year-old Cameroonian who escaped after conviction by a US Court was on Friday, May 27, arrested in Bamenda by US Police, working in tandem with Cameroonian police. Theresa was sentenced to 17-year jail term for charges related to human rights abuses, child molestation and financial impropriety by a US tribunal late last year.

The arrest took place around 7:00 am. Recounting the story to The Post, Ma. Magdalene Mubang, Theresia's mother, said she and her daughter had just returned from morning mass.

After packing the car in the garage, she was surprised when six men appeared and one of them told Theresia she was under arrest and ordered her to give the car keys to her mother.

"I asked them to show me the arrest warrant but they ignored my question and took her away. She went with only her handbag. She was not even allowed to enter the house and change the skirt she was wearing," Ma Mubang said.

A few minutes after her daughter had been taken away, the old lady said she went first to the Judicial Police Bamenda thinking she had been detained there. Not finding her, she went to the office of the Attorney General in the company of a magistrate.

The Attorney General showed her a letter, which had been sent to him by the US Embassy requesting Theresia Mubang's arrest. He said he was not in town when the letter arrived and that he only saw it after she had been picked-up.

Ma Mubang recalled a statement in the letter read out to her that her daughter should be arrested because her escape was a slap on the face of the US Government. "But why should Theresia be treated as if she is a murderer or thief?" she lamented.

Mrs. Mubang admitted that her daughter slapped Chumbow but wondered if the punishment (17 years imprisonment) was not disproportionate to the crime."

Particulars Of Arrest

The Post learnt the US intelligence officials had monitored her for some time and that a diplomatic vehicle had actually driven past the family compound in Big Mankon several times.

On that fateful day, one of the intelligence officials had taken position at T-Junction from where a road leads to Big Mankon and two others at the entrance to the Cathedral where Theresia was attending morning mass with her mother.

The third group among them some whites were at the Big Mankon Field with the car that was to take her to Douala. It is alleged that some of the intelligence officials all blacks attended the church service with her.

Another watched the entrance to the Mubang compound from Savannah Street. All intelligence officials communicated using walkie-talkies. That is why they were able to converge on the compound at the same time coming from opposite directions.

It is also believed that her enemies that frequented SKY-I CM, the cyber café where she was supervisor, could have leaked information that led to Theresia's arrest to the US intelligence officials.

The Post learnt that Theresia was flown to the US through Douala International Airport around 11:30 pm same night to begin her 17-year-jail term, with the possibility another four-year sentence because she showed contempt for US authority by taking off her electronic anklet.

Is this Sentence Too Severe?

A Maryland Nigerian Female Doctor is convicted and sentence to SEVEN years in federal prison and will be deported after that time FOr a 'forced Servitude crime .the victim a 14 year old Nigerian girl was forced to work as unpaid servant for seven years.the now 23 years old victim had been taken from her family in Nigeria under the false belief that she was being adopted to attend school in the USA.She was raped by the man who took her from her family and abused by his wife (the doctor).-----------I think the rape should be handled separately with the Man .I think sending the lady Doctor to seven years in Jail and then to be deported is TOO severe in my opinion. What about making her paid the girl for the years she was a servant (with interest) and may be send her to school too.The doctor is really a 'BUSH' woman for carrying that Nigerian mentality of teating Servant as slaves to the us.But seven years in the Slammer is pushing the case. WHAT DO YOU FOLKS THINK?

I think the purnishment fits the crime, a lot of people lie to the parents of young kids, take their children, use them as servants and these poor children undergo a lot of abuse, people need to care for other people's children like their own.

Fire burn all the wicked. When you add up the time of her enslavement, plust time in a mental prison, seven years is too short.

You must be joking!! 7 years sound about right to me. Slavery is a very sensitive issue hear in the US as most should know, and thus is taken as a major offence when found to be taking place... especially when dealing with kids. If you are caught doing it, you will get the full weight of the law thrown at you. The Naija government just past a law banning the use of child house servants and placing an heavy jail term in place for those caught involved in it. This sounds very good to me.

I totally agree. And I was going to say that I thought that term seemed a lil on the short end, but I didn't want to anger anybody by putting down their opinion too harshly.
