Nigeria governor comes clean on tummy-tuck

Got this in my hotmail account today!

Wed Oct 5, 1:25 PM ET

ABUJA (Reuters) - A Nigerian state governor, fighting
money-laundering charges in Britain, has another weighty matter
on his mind: he wants people to know the truth about his recent
"tummy-tuck" operation.

Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, governor of the oil-producing state of
Bayelsa in southern Nigeria, was arrested in London on September
15 on an airliner from Germany where he had gone for surgery.

Police later found 1 million pounds in cash at his London home
and he has been charged with laundering a total of 1.8 million
pounds. He denies any wrongdoing.

Initially, the governor did not make public what kind of surgery
he underwent, but reports soon appeared in Nigerian media that
it was a liposuction to reduce the size of his belly.

On Wednesday, his spokesman set the record straight in a letter
to Nigeria's The Guardian newspaper: the governor had a
"tummy-tuck" for health reasons -- not to improve his looks.

"The truth is that the governor, due to age and a natural
tendency, had become somewhat overweight," wrote Preye Wariowe.
This posed a risk to his heart and circulation.

"There were two main options. Either exercise till the excess
weight is gone or do a surgical intervention to free his heart
of the pressure."

You know, that's the one that gets me, MOST government officials EVERYWHERE in the world do some 'manuvering' of funds one way or the other, we understand that, however, most do it wisely, in small bits and pieces here and there. Alamieyeseigha gets bail at last

Embattled Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha got a reprieve Tuesday as the Southwark Crown Court in London granted him bail. He is likely to be freed from Her Majesty’s Prison in Brixton Wednesday.

The trial judge, at the appellate court, Justice Rivlin, granted the bail after set conditions were fulfilled by Alamieyeseigha, who has been facing a three-count charge of money laundering to the tune of £1.8 million since September 28.

The governor’s bail is coming at a time Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Chief Jonathan Goodluck, says that despite Alamieyeseigha’s travail the people of the state are not desirous of his replacement.

Daily Sun gathered that Alamieyeseigha met the bail conditions Tuesday, when Mr. Terry Waya, a notable Nigerian international businessman and a friend of the governor, deposited the £500,000 bail bond in the court’s account.
Waya confirmed to Daily Sun on phone Tuesday that the bail process went well with the Bayelsa governor satisfying the judge’s conditions. He said that Alamieyeseigha would leave the prison Wednesday.

British Police arrest Alamieyeseigha's wife

THE ordeal of Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, on trial in London for money laundering, took a dramatic turn yesterday. Some United Kingdom policemen stormed his London home at about 9.00 a.m. and arrested his wife, Margaret.

As at press time last night, formal charges had not been preferred against her. On enquiry, a Scotland Yard officer simply told The Guardian yesterday evening: "A 50-year old woman was arrested at a West London address today, and is currently being held in custody at a West London Police Station."

But Scotland Yard spokeswoman, Helen Kennedy, said: "We cannot confirm the identity of a person arrested unless they are charged with an offence," adding: "It's in connection with the ongoing inquiry."

When asked if she would be charged to court later in the week, Kennedy said: "I'm not sure."

But according to her, the governor's wife "can either be charged or bailed." Kennedy also admitted that the Police have no powers to hold her for more than 48 hours unless they are going to charge her.

However, the spokeswoman did not rule out the possibility of the governor's wife being bailed tonight.

He will not be the first governor to be caught by the british police. months back , the platue state govrnor was arrested in london with close to a million dollars.
this are the very few casses we know of, government officials continue to milk the country dry. some poeple say nigeria can never get beter events like these make me agree with them.

The president of a whole nation cannot have an 800K house? Besides depending on where it is, 800K house may not be as big of a deal as you may think. You mean to tell me that Clinton may not have houses and capital interest real estate or even cash in other countries? does not mean he stole it.
