What ordinarily should be heralded with joy, the birth of a new baby, had rather become a source of worry to a family in one of the LGAs in Rivers State.

Recently, a mother of eight children, who was just delivered of the ninth baby, was said to have run out of the delivery room half naked at the sight of the sex of the new born.

When surrounded by people and hospital attendants who ran after her for fear that she had gone mental, the lady, Small Talks learnt had vowed to die in the clinic or be knocked down by a vehicle than go home with yet another baby girl. MORE

These days female children are a blessing...they take care of their parents and are very successful. She should have practised the billings method !!!! They have a location in Nigeria !!

You know, 2 years ago, someone came to my Mom and said that she was so sad because her 3rd child was another girl. Mom told her that it'll be a woman that'll take care of you in your old age, whether it be your daughter or your daugher in law, she said see the 2 cars out there, My first daughter bought them for me and her father, see all the furniture in my house, my 2nd daughter bought those for me, it was not until my 2 daughters did so much and started pressuring my son did he too do something significant. She told the lady, rejoice for what the Lord has given you, however, a female is the best blessing a mother will receive from God for that girl will see to it that you never go without to the best of her abilities and all my girls are successful. The husband in the article, is he not aware that HE actually dictates the sex/gender of the child and not the woman? I can't believe that such ignorance still runs rampid.

Why are you even going there? Why would anyone pressure the WOMAN for a male child if they aren't ignorant!!!!

You have absolutely no clue what is going on in nigerian society now,do you?We are talking about naija here and not america.Emphasis on having a male child in the family is very great,much greater than in the states or any other western country.9 daughters.....!!!Yeah,i can understand the woman's reaction which reeks of desperation.

I don't think that that has anything to do with ignorance,kaymax.Male children preserve the name of a family lineage better than female children.I am sure you know that.
