this Nigerian Police and Army fight is not the first even the 200-times since i was born..since Army was sent to Barracks, Police never regard them... and Army them self hate Police!! when Police detained my Car...it was just an Army that got nothing to do with the case came and demand the release... the Police station said no.. he now went back and carry his troops...within 40 mins it was fighting in the police station..they starting firing on air...beating up police.. until all the police in that station run away... Nigeria Police will like to detain the commercial vehicle coz he saw an Army inside and he wanna know what he's going to do... this is just a constant fight between them!! if Police dey take their daily roger and see commercial with Army...the bus must roger the police the 20-man.. but the Army wont allow that coz he didn't pay the driver....then police have to order the driver to park well... the Army have to react to protect the image of Military.. then you see the fight!!! na so de thing dey happen 4 our naija,,,

This is not a new thing everybody. There have always been clashes between Naijas uniformed personnel. The Army vs Police has been quite common, Air Force vs Customs also occured a few times in those days. There was supposed to hatred between Navy and some other force as well(but I don't remember).
In fact, years ago when a friend and I were stopped by mobile police around 4 am(we were returning from a party), the guysthreatened to shoot us, and claim we were armed robbers. We eventually gave him some "fine bara" and he let us go. I later told a friend of mine who had a brother in the army. I was oferred the chance of revenge on those mobile police offers ie a detachment of soldiers to go and "DISCIPLINE" the police at their post(we were still under militray rule at the time), I declined however.
ciao

Short version:
The mobile police were doing their "duty" of collecting money from motorists, and were accosted by a soldier who was a passenger in a commercial van. Here the details differ, but apparently the soldier demanded that "his van" be released to continue its journey, but the "kill-and-go" police refused.
Some altercation took place, and before you could shout "bolekaja", slaps were released unto unreceptive faces. A brigadier-soldier may have also been assaulted in the process. The fracas took a bad turn when a reinforcement of soldiers beseiged the police station that the offending officers may have come from, and cars, houses and humans became the victims.
As usual, when elephants fight the peons suffer.
Naija for you ooo!
