Soldiers, policemen clash: Nine feared dead in Lagos
A misunderstanding between soldiers and policemen in the Ojuelegba area Lagos on Tuesday led to the death of no fewer than nine persons, including two policemen.
It resulted in the razing of the Surulere police station and paralysis of business activities around the area.
Aso Rock reacted immediately to the development by summoning the Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero and Service Chiefs to the Villa.
The office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Area ‘C’ Command Headquarters), Sam Adegbuyi, was also torched by the soldiers.
Trouble started, according to a witness, about 10.00 a.m. when a mobile policeman accosted a commercial vehicle in Ojuelegba for flouting traffic rules. A soldier was on board. MORE

POLICE Vs SOLDIER@ OJUELEGBA
I would have put this in gist from Lagos but since I no get access, some moderator can put it there.
A police officer (Olopa) asked a Danfo bus for their regular 20 naira tips. As the rules goes, if a military person or so called "Staff" is the bus, the 20naira should be waived. The Soldier man that is inside the bus was not in uniform and he simply explained to the police that he is a military man and the 20naira should be waived. The Police man, said the military man is lieing and in the process slapped the soldier man. The Soldier went to barracks to gather his people and thats how Ojuelegba becomes a war zone. Bullets were flying, the big police station at Ojuelegba was burnt down, over 50 cars in the area was burnt down. 5 people reported dead. The criminals in jails escape with fire arms in station when the police run for their lives.
I guess by now the police had learned their lesson in Nigeria.

Naija is great on my side, thank God. It rained heavily both yesterday and today.

If you driving on a major road, let say Ibadan to Lagos. Police will stop you and disturb your life, then tell you Armed Robbers are raiding in next one Kilometer from them. They dont dare go and bother the thieves but the innocent civilians.
I try as much as possible to see that I dont stay past 10pm outside. Naija is good if you have good resource of money. You hardly hear theives raiding homes again. But their are some road thieves and thieves raiding businesses. Nigeria is good if you have the money and last but not the least God's protection. Its also depends on the area where you live.

@ the highlighted, I said a similar thing (i.e. night life is not very safe in naija) in one thread like that, I guess it was Vince that started the thread. When Police are the ones walaying the citizens....then there is a very big problem and the safety of the entire country is really something to worry abt
