Mystery fog engulfs Nigerian city - Eko
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/h...ca/4335550.stm
Nigeria's main city of Lagos has been enveloped in a thick, white, malodorous fog, which has caused panic.
Lagos' state governor closed all schools in the city and some residents have complained of irritation to their eyes and stomach pains.
Laboratory tests showed the fog had higher than normal levels of sulphuric acid, but was not harmful.
The cause is being investigated - one environmental official attributed it to a broken petroleum pipe.
The BBC's Sola Odunfa in Lagos says visibility in some areas has been reduced to 100m and there are even worse traffic jams than normal in this busy city.
The fog has a strange odour, which caused people to run out of their work places and homes to find out what was going on, he says.
Lagos is one of Africa's largest cities, with a population of an estimated 15m people.

The thing was terrible yesterday o, though it was for e few hours in the morning, we hear the leakage was from started from Ketu, spread to Ojota, maryland, Anthony, Gbagada, Ojuelegba, Palmgrove, Yaba, even towards 3rd mainland.
The gas was really awful, one couldnt breathe, eyes were smarting, terrible headache and chest pain.
The commisioner for health came on Tv and asked people to vacate the area, but a lot of people didnt, maybe cos there were not many people watchin TV at that time of the day.
Me sha, when i got to work the fog was everywhere, even with AC and closed doors, i still had difficulty in breathing. My office had to be closed, so people could go home. Luckily the gas didnt get to my house.
I'm fine sha, though my head is still aching a bit

I just hope & pray they get to the bottom of the matter b4 it causes more mayhem & destruction in the already-overcrowded city.
