OBJ admits Abiola's victory

For the first time since the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, President Olus-egun Obasanjo yesterday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, made a veiled reference to the victory of the late businessman, Bashorun M.K.O. Abi-ola, in that election.

Speaking at the coronation of the 10th Alake of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo, held at Ake Palace Square, Ake, Abeokuta, Obasanjo while talking about those things he shared in common with the new monarch including attending the Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, said: “But the point is this, if you look at the calibre of people that have gone to the school, and are here, this school has produced presidents, Governors, Obas. And if not for bad belle the school would have produced three Presi-dents."

The statement was apparently referring to himself and then the annuled June 12 election widely believed to have been won by the late Abiola.

Abiola attended Ba-ptist Boys High School, Abeokuta. The only other head of government from Egbaland is Chief Ernest Shonekan who served as Head of Interim National Gover-nment in 1993. But Shonekan attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos.
