Thumbs down Governor of Oyo state, Ladoja impeached!

Someone called me this evening telling me that Governor Ladoja has been impeached! this morning, he was kicked out of the office by Adedibu's boys

What a shameful country.
This is terrible and purely a show of shame. The deputy governor Adebayo Alao-Akala has been sworn in as the new governor.

What do you think of this
First, it is shameful is dis justice or wat? how can a governor elected by the people be impeached without due process of law.

Thumbs down I can’t save you – Obasanjo tells Ladoja

As the 18 lawmakers working for the removal of Governor Rasidi Ladoja of Oyo State from office prepare to act on the report of the seven-man panel investigating allegation of gross misconduct against the governor, President Olusegun Obasanjo says it’s too late to stop the process already initiated by the state’s House of Assembly.

This is even as the Ibadan branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) berated the state’s acting Chief Judge, Justice Afolabi Adeniran, for violating the constitution by ignoring a court order restraining him from constituting the seven-man panel investigating allegations of gross misconduct against Ladoja. Also, it is coming at a time armed men and police armoured tanks were drafted to the state’s House of Assembly Complex and later stood down.

According to Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, who spoke when President Obasanjo visited the home of the foremost educationist, Pa Emmanuel Alayande, on his 96th birthday, the President believes that the legal process involved in the matter had already gone far and cannot be truncated.

He said that Obasanjo, had earlier intervened at the political level by setting up a peace committee led by the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Ibrahim Shema, disclosing that a recent meeting in Abeokuta, at the instance of Ladoja, had attempted to get other South-West governors to intervene in the crisis.

"I think the meeting was at the instance of the governor of Oyo State and we, naturally as colleagues, followed him to that meeting. What was in the paper was not the truth of what happened at the meeting. I remember that at the meeting we asked the governor of Oyo State what he wanted done and what he said was that he wanted Mr. President to intervene in the process.

"I remember vividly the President said he had no problem intervening at the level of politics and whereas as a party leader he has also intervened at the level of the party when he asked the national chairman to set up a peace committee. I remember the President saying he found it difficult to intervene at the level of a judicial process. Then the President said that now that the thing is at the level of judiciary he is not in a position to talk to the judiciary or to try to truncate the judicial process," he said.

Attempts by journalists to get the president to speak on the matter proved abortive as he bluntly refused to entertain press interview. He moved into a waiting Mercedes Benz car together with Ladoja and drove straight to the Ibadan Airport.

Another source

The tension in Ibadan heightened on Wednesday as riot policemen were deployed to secure the expansive state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.

An armoured personnel carrier marked PF 5416 LA has also been stationed at the governor’s office and the state House of Assembly.

The latest security measures might have been informed by indications that the seven-member panel investigating allegations of gross misconduct against the Governor, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja, may submit its report to the state House of Assembly on Thursday (today).

The latest security surveillance of the state secretariat is similar to what preceded the ouster of the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

The acting Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mr. Jonathan Johnson, confirmed the security arrangements.

Feelers from government circles in the state indicated that the fate of the governor might have been sealed, particularly because of the declaration by President Olusegun Obasanjo in Ibadan on Wednesday that he could no longer save Ladoja’s job.

Obasanjo, who was in Ibadan to felicitate with nonagenarian educationist, Chief Emmanuel Alayande, said that the political crisis in Ibadan had defied political solution.

You have to understand that politics in nigeria right now is very hot. Having just recently returned from naija myself, everyone is really hot up with the 2007 election just right the corner, I think anyone that's not OBJ's boy is definately on his OWN.

I have a copy of city people here which i bought in naija dated jan 11 2006 vol 18 with the heading WHY PRESIDENT OBJ WANTS GOV. LADOJA OUT. I will just summarise the whole story some people believe that the issue of impeaching Gov Ladoja was further fulled by the undisguised support that the president has shown in support of Adedibu (who is percieved as the godfather of oyo state politics) . unconfirmed reports alleged that the president was quoted to have told a delegation of top Ibadan indigenes who visited him that the resolution of the crisis in oyo state can only be achieved if gov Ladoja is removed from office. However, the supporters of the governor are however alleging that the president's actual grouse may be because the governor is perceived to be an ally of the vc atiku and as such must be taught a bitter lesson. They also said that the governor would have been able to resolve the issue if adedibu had not received the president's backing. Some also argue that the governor is the architect of his own problem as he does not have a firm control on his law makers, he is not in good terms with two PDP senators in the state ( i find this hard to believe though) I have to stop here but I just think that this 2007 election is going to cause a lot of problem in Nigeria especially with the issue of OBJ wanting to run for a third term in office there are mixed feelings in Nigeria about whether or not OBJ should be allowed to run for the third term. The VC sef no help matter as he wants to contest in the next election himself. Governors are in a tight situation now because it's either you're on Atiku's side or OBJ's side.

Post Alao-Akala sworn in as Oyo State governor

As soon as the Acting Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Taiwo Oluyemi, pronounced the resolution of the House impeaching the embattled governor at exactly 8.35 AM, the stage was set for his Deputy, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala to take over as he was immediately sworn in two hours later at the Executive Council chambers of the governor by the state acting Chief Judge, Justice Afolabi Adeniran. The journey towards Ladojaâs exit began last Monday when the Chief Samuel Ayorinde led seven -man investigative panel rounded up its sitting without taking the defence of embattled Ladoja. In his acceptance speech, Governor Akala said it is the will of god that he will be Governor of Oyo State. He said he became governor not because he sought the office but by the constitutional provision, which stipulates that, the deputy governor assumed the position of the governor in the event of resignation, death or an impeachment. In this case an impeachment has taken place.Akala, an Ogbomoso man said he knew the importance of Ibadan in politics of Oyo State and the south west and promised that the city will not diminish in status under his administration. After the speech, Akala immediately announced the dissolution of the state Executive Council and directed all commissioners to hand over properties of government with them to the Permanent Secretaries in their ministries. Speaking with reporters in an interview, Akala said he does not know the whereabout of his former boss but promised to try and locate him. Ladoja's forced exit from the Agodi Government House brought to an end the over two year simmering feud between him and his erstwhile political godfather, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, who parted ways with him shortly after he assumed office in 2003 for reneging on the agreement reached with him before his election.

Looks like HISTORY is repeating itself .It was right there at Ibadan that unrest that almost consumed Nigeria started ----Just the exact way ---Akintola removed as the Premier. Adegbenro hastly swore in .Akintola refused to vacate the government's house .etc etc Riots and mayhem all over.this eventually led to military taking over and as they say the rest is History.

No Hope For Naija

Ladoja dared God..., he snubbed Obasanjo..., he lied against me

—Adedibu

Chief Lamidi Adedibu, also known as strong man of Ibadan politics, proved the stuff he was made of, Thursday, when he successfully engineered the impeachment of Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja as governor of Oyo State. Baring his mind to journalists soon after the impeachment at his Molete, Ibadan house, Adedibu, for the first time, gave detail of efforts to save Ladoja and why they failed. Our man, SINA FADARE, captured his views.

YOU have said in one of your interviews that you will remove the former governor, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja, and it came to pasts. How will you describe your victory?

It is not a surprising victory because I am a true believer in God and read both the Quran and Bible. I know the consequences of any evil doer just like it happened to Ladoja. He did not do well at all.

Could you tell us some of his major sins?

People have been making a lot of insinuations that we fell apart because I gave him a list of some commissioners and he rejected them. No, it was not. I handed over 10 names as commissioners with their portfolios. It was a list that all elders of the party submitted after a lot of screening and I nominated one person from my end. Eventually, my own candidate became the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. He did not change any of the other nine candidates or the portfolios I gave them. Therefore, we did not quarrel on the issue of commissionership. The crisis erupted as soon as he got to the Government House and saw the amount of money in the treasury. Then he became swollen headed and did not want anybody to partake in the spoils of office, including all the elders and leaders of the party. You can see for yourself there is no single leader of the party in his camp in Oyo State. He is a lone ranger, working alone. All the elders of the party, beginning from Elder Wole Oyelese, Yekini Adeojo and a host of others. Members of the House of Representatives and the three senators are not with him.

You can now deduce what is going on. He was a bad leader who could not accommodate all those that weathered the storm to instal him as the governor of the state. We have nine members of the House of Representatives, 21 members of the state House of Assembly before three of them were bought over by him remaining the 18 that eventually removed him. Imagine a governor fighting all those that matter in the state. The workers, the Obas and the elders. What else? A man that is destined for the grave will not listen to the counsel of elders. To him, the position of the governor has been turned to that of God. He dared God and he faced the consequences.

Ladoja once alleged that you were demanding the state treasury. Is it true?

He was not the one that sponsored himself to become the governor of the state. I have been living in affluence before he was born. I contested election with his father in 1954, on April 17, to Ibadan district council. I was an Action Group (AG) candidate while his father was NCNC. We contested together and since then God has been blessing me and I have been living conveniently. So, why will I say that he should bring money to me? Lam Adesina was there for four years. We are still in Ibadan, living without any iota of change to my lifestyle. It was the same thing when Kolapo Isola was there. Why will I request for what I know does not belong to him? Ask Ladoja what he has done with the allocation he collected. Let him come out and tell the people of Oyo State what he did with the money he had collected so far. Within 30 months of his tenure in Oyo State he had collected N106 billion. Let him tell the whole world how he spent it.

You pressmen can go round and see for yourselves what improvements there are in Ibadan, not to talk of other parts of the state. Ladoja is a greedy person. I thank God he did not empty the treasury for me as he insinuated but where has the money gone? This still remains a puzzle for people of the state.

Abi o, how can Adedibu say Ladoja shouldn't have any problem giving him money and that he gave him 100,00 naira check that bounced. All these sounds personal to me but on the other hand, I don't know exactly what is going on so I have to zip it for now. But all these fighting, bickering and impeaching stuff sounds personal to me. I think Adedibu is just trying to let Ladoja know that he made him who he is and he can as well brake him. You still have to respectthe hand that feeds you depending on the situation sha.
