But on another note, I fail to see how a simple visit to this side of the pond would be seen as a misfortunate event for you.

Don't you have family and friends over here? Wouldn't you want to come and experience the world they live in for a while? The US is a very large place, and theirs lots of interesting urban and non urban monuments, terrains and people to encounter. Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, Great Salt Lake, St Louise Arch, Empire State Building, Statue Of Liberty, Florida Beaches, Miami Night Life, Theaters of New York City, numerous world renowned art museums... from NYC to Chicago to LA.

Mississippi River boat rides, Harlem's 125th street, and the legendary Broadway and 5th Av. of Manhattan, Niagara Falls, Seattle's Space Needle, Beverly Hills and Hollywood in southern Cali, or the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, various monuments in Washington DC, or the Sears Tower in Chi Town (Chicago). There are way too many to name. There's nothing wrong with visiting a place. Whatcha scared of?

I would love to....IF I was able to, but family and work obligations would make me a very unreliable tourguide, sis!!
