S/Africa to acquire rights to produce Nigerian car

Quote:
South Africa is set to acquire the rights from an automobile engineer to mass produce Nigeria's first car, the Z600, in that country.

South African President Thabo Mbeki has instructed his deputy-president to finalise details of the agreement with the car manufacturer with a view to producing the vehicle in South Africa.

Ezekiel Izogu, managing director of Izogu Motors Limited managing director disclosed this in an exclusive interview with BUSINESSDAY.

Izogu said the car was first launched in Owerri in 1997 by then Chief of General Staff Oladipo Diya during the regime of former Head of State Sani Abacha.

But the success story really began last year when Izogu was invited by South Africa to deliver a lecture on science and technology. Izogu said: "The South African Government encouraged me more than my own country. Mbeki sent his deputy-president to receive me and told me how ready they were to encourage me and to provide what I wanted.

"However, they said I must take the car to South Africa to let it be manufactured in their country. If they are putting up the money it is only fair that the car is made in their country".

He added that the board of directors at Izogu Motors was in the process of taking the car to South Africa, but he stressed that the Z600 would "lose its Nigerian identity".

This is a damn shame!! Once again South Africa manages to make Naija look like S**T!! When are these politicians going to get their act together and start acting their ages instead of their shoe sizes?? Disgraceful!! Hopefully the next time an opportunity like this comes around they'll take better advantage of it.

You don't know the half of it Benin.
When I was a kid, a Naija engineer adapted the humble Volks-Wagen Beetle, he crossed it with a Rolls-Royce and called the resulting product Volks-Royce.
It was a very popular thing back then, many Nigerians also had their VW's adapted. Volks-Wagen Nigeria took the guy to court, claiming he spoilt their product, the court found in their favour, and that's how it was killed off!

Sola is a journalist, he'll probably provide more details of this if we ask him.

@Sholly boy, holla!

That's interesting!! I'm telling you, ethnic bias is what's killing and has been killing that nation for its entire existence. I'm not exactly sure of the validity of this, but I can remember reading that during the nation's civil war, shut off from weapons and munitions supplies from the outside, the Igbo organized their Engineers, scientist and other specialist and managed to begin manufacturing their own weapons, munitions and war machines... including Airplanes... and the machines, tools and factories to begin manufacturing all of this stuff.

All of their supplies were of such great quality that the only thing that really kept them from continuing the war was the fact of that they couldn't obtain a sufficient amount of food from outside Biafra, which lead to mass starvation in which killed many. Many more died via starvation rather than actual combat. After the war, instead of gathering up these Igbo scientist, engineers and other specialist whom had successfully established their people's very efficient war machine, and encouraging them to incorporate their talent and know-how into the Nigerian system so that the nation can begin to develop their own weapons, munitions, Airplanes, Vehicles, refineries, power plants and more... in which the Igbo specialist had managed to develop, they instead chose to neglect them and their work... and eventually forced them into the hands of western nations, whom certainly put their talents to good use in helping to further develop their nations. Now till this very date Nigeria remains an mass importer goods in which they could be mass producing and exporting themselves.

At a time when the leaders could had set a progressive standard of efficiency, accountability, and tolerance in the nation, they instead chose to set a destructive, dangerous precedence inefficiency, unaccountability and intolerance, and this report is but another showing of this situations ugly head.
