WAEC Witholds 58,000 Results
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) yesterday released the result of the 2005 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) withholding a total of 57,612 results of candidates over what it described as alleged involvement in examination malpractices.
The Head of Nigerian National Office (HNO), Dr. Samuel Adeyegbe, who disclosed this while announcing the release of the result in his office said the number represented 14.33 percent of the total number that sat for the examination.
He said all the reports of examination malpractices were being compiled and would be sent to the Nigerian examination committee of the council for investigation, adding that it was after the investigation that the committee’s decision would be communicated to the affected candidates.
The HNO disclosed that a total of 401,942 candidates sat for the examination nationwide and that out of the number, 374,095 candidates, representing 93 percent had their full results released while 27,847 representing 6.93 percent had their results partially released.
Adeyegbe said however that 142,252 candidates were eligible for matriculation in the nation’s tertiary institutions because they passed in both English and Mathematics as well as got the mandatory five credits at a sitting.
“There is this other group of 18,810 candidates representing 4.68 percent who obtained credit and above in five subjects but without Mathematics and English language”, he said.
The HNO said that its on-line registration would continue despite the initial problems encountered when it took off, saying that such problems have been surmounted and that new technology driven methods would be explored.
He said that after the leakage of the May/June SSCE last year, the council had overhauled its security systems and introduced new measures where necessary, especially in those areas where outsiders were involved.
Adeyegbe said that some candidates who cheated in the past were now turning a new leaf and had been returning their certificates to the council
On the released results, he said that candidates could start checking for their results on-line as from Monday February 27, 2006 and assured that the council would continue to deliver quality assured examination.

LOL. Some people can be real onuku/olodo. Haba! Dem no even sabi how to reword ntuntu (leaked paper) eh?! More than 57.5K is alot of malpractice. WAEC needs to look into their security dept. and supervisors. They should tighten things up and do more scrutiny.

Thats like 13% of the candidate, thats alot. The silly thing is that they got mouth to talk about their flaws. I mean who problem is it that the question leaked?
