At first I was for OBJ whether the constitution gets changed or not. If he is doing something to make the country better, I don't care if he stays for 20 yrs to come as long as things are progressing but what I don't understand is why he wants another term, to do what exactly. In 1979 what did he do, his first two terms what did he do, the first yr of his last two terms what did he do, didn't he start to belt up recently but doing what really. Is he going to now focus on education and the well being of Nigerians or what? I don't think it should take him another term to do something with the education problem we are having in Naija, since he has not done anything about that when he was there, I wonder exactly what he has planned for this upcoming term he wants. If he wants to rewrite a constitution, he should start with the one that protects governement officials from been prosecuted after stealing billions of dollars or Nigeria's money. What exactly does he want to run for, to have us build a nuclear weapon, get a video phone to naija, build skyscarppers or focus on issues such as education, jobs and so on. I guess OBJ building a university that an average man in Naija won't be able to attend is a way to give back to its community what it has lost. I was for him before but thinking about it lately, he's been there for too long for things to be the way it is. so what is he going to do now.

He's clearly shown us that he's a selfish individual by seeking for a third term of office.
It's time for the military to take over Nigeria and stabilise the country before things fall apart.

My friend, it was the military that destabilized the country, so what stability are you talking about??

Whether people believe it or not, there has been some major developments and freedom during the few years of democracy. We need to realize that just like it took years for the past dictators to $crew up the country, it will take even more years to amend certain things. Furthermore, it's not a one man's job; complaints without individual efforts on the people's part wouldn't change anything.

I've been speaking my mind on this issue while on this site for a long while now, and so I figured most folks were tired of reading my long winded articles of information on the issue, so I decided to pass on getting involved in this thread, and instead show my support toward those whom hold similar beliefs as me on this topic. And you (Pete) seem to be one of the few making the most credible responses around here, IMO!!

You have a well rounded view of the situation; Meddeen has, by far, the worst, but I'd expect such backward thoughts to come from a person who supports his country naming one of the major streets of its Capital City after the most ruthless Military dictator of Nigerian History, Gen. Abacha, further claiming the guy to be an good person, or not so bad.

Has it ever occured to you that OBJ is government is like a military regime in a democratic outfit. He's just pretending. Does democracy allow the president to rule for more than 2 terms?
If you're gonna have a dictator like OBJ, why not just have the military instead?

But you're getting there already. OBJ is slowly turning his regime into a totalitarian regime. He's gonna rig the election and rule for a third and probably a fourth term.
At the preset time, the military could be your last hope to restore stability. Don't forget about the South- South people as well. I can boldly say that the Nigerian federation is facing an uncertain future.

Firstly, If you've never been to Africa, then I suggest you stop running your mouth cos you don't know the reality of the situation.

Secondly, You know very little about my country and why we named a street after Abacha. Where were all the world leaders when the RUF were killing and maiming innocent people in my country? Had Abacha not intervened, the blood-shed would have been far more worse. You have very little knowledge about Africa or African politics. I suggest you go and buy the documentary called "Cry Freetown" so that you'll see the extent of the damage done to my country as a result of the war.

Finally, I'd like to advice you to go and spend some time in Africa if you want to be involved in discussions of this magnitude. Reading newspapers and watching TV can not give you accurate information cos their reports are usually edited and sometimes politically motivated.

PS: This thread is about opinions. There isn't gonna be a winner or looser so just keep quiet ok. Weren't you the same guy that used to argue that Charles Taylor will not be handed over to S/Leone? Unless I'm mistaken, you're the same guy. Where is Charles Taylor today? Your knowledge on African issues is substantially limited, so I suggest you relax ok.

As I expected. I won't even bother answering to all of that rubbish, but I will say that your memory is not as sharp as mine... in that I've never said such a thing about Taylor, and no... I wont state what I did actually say... cause I'm now done with this thread and don't want to be a contributor to it's diversion from it's original topic. I'll now go back to being an observer. Have a great day Meddeen and thanks for the laugh.

Everybody should cool down. 2007 will actually be a really good one for naija. A lot of these so called leaders will self destruct. Trust me, for once, the issue of power of incumbency will NOT work. About five big elephants will fight and demistify themselves and only the person with our collective interest will be on the seat of power. We really do live in interesting times and the games have just begun!

@highlighted. Do you really think it's a game? Hope you know that game like these can lead to the loss of innocent lives.
