President "OBUSANJO" declares third term?!!!
President Olusegun Obasanjo ended speculation on his rumored third term bid today when his spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode, told the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC that the president will context the 2007 presidential elections if the constitution is amended. This is the clearest indication so far that President Obasanjo plans to run for a third term in office if the constitution is amended to allow for it. The current constitution only allows for two terms of offices for all elected public officials in Nigeria.
Nigeria’s national Assembly is currently considering the recommendation of a committee report which has already recommended for a constitutional change to allow for more than two terms in office for public officials including the president. The terms of office is one of over a 100 amendments to the constitution recommended by the committee headed by Senator Ibrahim Mantu, a crony of the president Obasanjo.

People, people... you should know by now to never, ever trust the western medias words on Africa to be credible. Why in the hell would OBJ's speaker, or whatever he is.... say such a thing when OBJ just told Bush that he had no plans as of now to run for a third term; yet admitting that he had no problem with the will of other federal reps wanting desire to attempt to change the constitution if they so pleased, though as long as it was done in an democratic manner as is the case. Bush was happy with that statement.
THE BBC FLAT OUT LIED, and falsified the said aids words, and then when they were called on it... they slyly quickly changed them. Once again the west is attempting to cause havoc on the African continent. I'll advise you to never take anything stated in the western media on Africa at face value.

In a swift refutal, however, Fani-Kayode described the report on the BBC website as untrue, saying there was no time he said so. And apparently in response to a protest by Fani-Kayode, BBC later re-wrote the report, saying President Obasanjo will “consider his options to stand for a third term or not if the constitution is changed.”
The report which was earlier entitled “Obasanjo willing for third term” was also changed to “Obasanjo ‘considers’ third term.”

God will decide apparently...
God's role
On Wednesday Mr Obasanjo's spokesman told the BBC that the president would consider whether or not to stand if the constitution was changed.
Mr Fani-Kayode was responding to a US newspaper report in which Mr Obasanjo said God would decide whether to extend his time as president after 2007.
Mr Fani-Kayode told the BBC this decision would not be decided by God alone and that there were other considerations.
The National Assembly is due to consider more than 100 proposed constitutional amendments, including whether to extend the limit on a president's term in office from two to three terms.
Supporters of Mr Abubakar, who is thought to be eyeing the presidency, oppose moves to change the constitution.
Opponents of the constitutional change argue that the presidency needs to rotate among people from different regions and ethnic groups.
Mr Obasanjo is a Christian from the south-west while Mr Abubakar is a Muslim from the north.
Recently, a majority of Nigeria's state governors agreed that a constitutional review was necessary within the life of the current administration.
