Post Nigeria quits Paris Club today

President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday said that Nigeria was finally free from its indebtedness to the Paris Club.

Obasanjo said that the approval of Nigeria's Policy Support Instrument by the Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund on Monday, meant that the last stage of our indebtedness to the Paris Club had been cleared.

The President who disclosed this before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House, Abuja, assured Nigerians that, "by Friday, April 21, we would have cleared ourselves of all debts owed to the Paris Club."

Abeg did he paid the money out of his loots? Sege want you all to have something good to talk about thats all. Nigeria shouldnt be in debt to begin with.

Alittle history. Despite the Biafra war in late 60's (67-70 to be precised). Nigeria was able to catch up with economy and doing well with just agricultural system. The oil boom came in 70's and catapult the country to one of the best in economy by late and early 80's. Hmm, the rest is history starting with Obasanjo reigning from that late 70's (76-79 to be precised).

Seriously, despite what people think, OBJ has done some pretty good things for Nigeria. We need more people like him, save the 3rd term idea.

Admit it. It's more than alot of us hoped for. Call a spade a spade and not an instrument for digging. It is what it is. The man is trying.

Maybe Naira will gain some value? Or is that undoable? Will the gain be a disadvantage for those of us living abroad?

You kidding right? This dude cant make his own fluent speech, talkless of understanding what it takes to execute a crucial economical goals for the country. Unless you dont know about what Nigeria has to begin with. Do you know in the late 70's to early 80's Naira was higher than Dollar?

Now we have to stop the hausa from being the president because if they come again they will spoil the economy and also they will destroy Nigeria again. Remember they were the ones that ruled Nigeria for forty years, but did not do anything. As a Niger deltan i think Obasanjo is good and we need somebody like him.

I grew up in the 80's. This is 2006. When was the last time any good news came out of Nigeria. It does not matter how much naira it was to a dollar. We have paid off a huge debt. We still have a long way to go but it is worth smiling over. I know when Nigeria was good. I still remember. I still remember also when Nigeria went bad and that anything good right now is good news. You are looking at the glass half empty not half full. This is good news. You cannot say it is not good news.
