The Police have arrested a middle-aged man, Mr Olise Obi for allegedly killing his 19-year old younger brother in Issele Uku, in the Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta State.
Olise was said to confessed to have killed his brother in error thinking it was a goat in the midst of other goats.
Also arrested by the police, was a 24-year-old Daniel Igheni of Egene quarters, Obera, Orogun village in Ughelli North Council area for alleging ripping open the intestine of a four year old KG3 nursery school pupil, Master ThankGod Arigbe for ritual purpose. The duo were among the 16 robbery suspects paraded yesterday by state Commissioner of Police, Mr Udom Ekpoudom at the command headquarters, Asaba for alleging committing various criminal offences across the state.
According to Ekpoudom, Mr Olise Obi of Ogbe Owelle quarters in Issele Uku had on September 10 hacked his younger brother to death with an axe for unknown reasons in a farm belonging to their mother.
The suspect, who claimed to have mistaken his brother as one of the 15 stubborn goats destroying his mother’s crops in the farm, said the action was not targeted at his brother who had just returned from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State to spend his holidays with the family.
Police also said the suspect had confessed to have allegedly committed incest with his mother in the same farm.
But when questioned by newsmen, the said Olise denied ever making such confession, declaring that incest is an abomination and should not be mentioned at all.
Ekpoudom said the suspect on committing the dastardly act took to his heels but was later picked up by officers of the command from the Issele Uku Divisional Station.
The suspect in an interview with journalists said he went to his mother’s cassava farm and saw about 15 goats destroying the crop. He added that he chased them out of the farm but 14 of the goats ran out while a recalcitrant goat refused to move out of the farm. He added that it was at that point that he picked up an axe and used on the “goat” that turned out to be a human being that died later.
Narrating his own case, the alleged ritualist confessed that he was contacted by a native doctor to bring the vital organs of a baby boy for an undisclosed type of ritual with a promise to pay him one million naira after perfecting the deal.
The suspect who was not quite sure of where the native doctor hailed from, said he was an Ijaw and later said he was from Abonema in Rivers State. The native doctor was said to have, however, since taken to his heels and has been declared wanted by police.
