Abeg Oga Sola wetin u dey talk now. This na serious business, it is high time we stand up for ourselves. How long are they going to lambast us and paint us dirty. Yeah i know the scammers are faulty but at the same time make we no just ignore the fact say dem Americans (especially dem white people) just dey stain us and dem dey spoil our rep(at least the little wey we get) Ok how can i be stupid enough to give my account # to someone wey say he wan put $250,000 for my account. Haba the money wey i no work for. If no be say na greed dey chop me for belle. Men i don't know if u did watch the Program at all it was just annoying. I mean we just need to stop them. They even went as far as breaking down Nkem Owoh's song "I go chop ur dollar" and saying all Naija people be Scammers. Men Naija people are really mad and they r demanding an apology from abc. Which to me i think we do deserve no matter what cos dem no carry out their investigation well.

Fellow Nigerians, this is long but pleaes read.
Last night, 20/20 on ABC supposedly "exposed" Nigerian scammers in the most condescending and biased way. While the greed of the people scammed was acknowledged, it was downplayed to vilify Nigerians. For example, they have a heart surgeon who threw away his life savings over a stupid black money scheme and later had the nerves to talk about how his trust had been violated when he knew the scheme was illegal anyway. They also used a church as an example and said how they were cheated because of their FAITH, when in reality they were cheated out of greed as well. The Western world always paints Africa as poor, but when they hear of a scheme in which they send $40,000 and receive $40 million from Nigeria in response, they fall for it? None of them would donate any money to African countries but they will take as much as they can, which is already going on in the country right now. Watch the videos and read the articles because these were all mentioned in the piece last night.
A piece like that damages Nigerians as a whole. It paints the entire country as scam artists or people who revere scam artists, and the only time they would compliment Nigerians is to say, "They're geniuses at understanding human nature." They referred to the song "I go chop your dollar" by Nkem Owoh as the country's theme and said how Nigerian citizens hail 419 artists as heroes (far from true) even though that song is the soundtrack to a movie and we all know Nigerian movies are based off things that happen there, both the good and bad, but they picked one thing and ran with it. We know that most Nigerians who come here are hard-working and educated and successful and we are the products of that success and carry on our parents' legacy, and we should not watch passively as we are slandered when we are great in number in this country and can respond.
Umu Igbo Alliance in Chicago has drafted a letter demanding a formal apology and we have contact info for ABC, but it would be more effective if we responded in numbers rather than as a few individuals. Any Nigerian organization that you may be involved in, I strongly urge you to take a stand. I've listed contact info at the end:
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=2712350
For this link, the first story (after the commercial) should be "Billion Dollar E-mail scams." Then there are like four more clips after that - all part of what 20/20 showed last night.
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=2711477
When you watch this video, the story that should come up is "Brian Ross turns the table on e-mail scammers." After that, click on "Brian Ross with an inside look at a con artist at work." Those are two clips from last night.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/..._of_chels.html
This link is a story that they covered last night.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/...es_minist.html
This link is another story coverd last night.
Honestly, these scams are not genius. The people that fell for it were just greedy and foolish. $25,000 for like $20 million? Please.
Contact info:
Contact 20/20 at: 2020@abc.com
Or go to:
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/BrianRoss/ and go to “Ask Brian Ross, then click on “email Brian Ross your questions”
Letters can also be sent to:
ABC News 7 WEST 66th Street
New York, NY 10023
They also ask for feedback via camcorder or webcam and they may air that as well so that is an option that people could try as well. I am tired of Nigerians being portrayed negatively as a whole when those are individuals, not all of us, and we should respond and express our dissatisfaction.

I have no sympathy for victims of 419 or wayo . They are greedy like hell and should swallow the poisonous medicine. Who invented 419? Is 419 not the brain child of capitalism? All forms of deceit to gain advantage is 419. That is what America and the Western world glorifies. When the black man attempts to deal the same deck, it becomes international crime. The white man wants to "catch and kill dem." Either you love Nigeria for what it is or you don't. If you don't, could you kindly excuse us? For crying out loud, that country is only 46 years old. What was Britain and America like at that age? I am very very proud of the country called Nigeria and in my next world I will be Igbo and Nigerian.

I'm not ashamed of the scammers. I have more pride in the scammers than the Nigerian idiots who bow their heads in shame, talking mad **** like they've walked a day in the shoes of the scammers. I'm not an advocate of this **** but please, don't knock the next man just cos you had better opportunities. The next Nigerian I meet who denies his heritage just may earn a flurry of elbows. I spit on scum like that.
It's ****ed up what they're doing but who the **** is anyone to throw the first stone? The same Americans who are reeling the 20/20 show are as we are speaking, drilling up barrels of Nigerian fortune for their own scams. Largescale billion dollar rape going on in African countries being exploited everyday by these same greedy bastards. The same way they see a quick way to exploit money from Naija thru these get-rich schemes that were proposed. Then when it backfires, they cry foul.
Nigeria has problems but not enough for me to deny her.
At least my Nigerians aren't turning Iraq upside down killing women and children for some oil. When I watched this **** I looked at it from a bright angle. IT could be worse. Nigerians could be the ones getting scammed. Imagine the roles reversed. It happens everyday. Americans turn around and sell their ****ed up planes and the worst of their stuff to Nigerians. Worthless planes that they sell for a fortune to the Nigerian govt, so eveyrday I have to read news about our people dying in plane crashes.
Today is a sad day for Nigerians. Not because of the scammers, but because of the Nigerians who easily denounce their heritage from the comfortable solace of the Master Extorionists, America.

i definitely feel you on that **** man.... Naijas way quick to deny their heritage....... PLs tell them jor.. IM WITH U ALL THE WAY..
Americans are BIGGER criminals ....because they sign documents which make it "LEGAL" doesnt mean they are not criminals...afterall it was "LEGAL" to sell blacks back in the day.
All the illegal money (Abacha, Mobutu, IBB and co) stashed in American and british banks which they refuse to give back to African countries.. Or what about the inflated loans which they secured in connivance with corrupt African leaders and which we are still paying till today (36 billion for 18 billion dollars)? Or the thousands of people killed daily around the world by the west on the "just cause" of anti-terrorism? Or colonialism? Our stolen art that is still displayed in american and european musuems? Please legality is not a sancrosanct idea, it is fluid and changes with time. Just because the west defines what is legal does not make it moral. Slave trading was legal and even segregation was legal up till 40 years ago.
Because they have a couple of "docments" which show that they sold us decrepit KILLER planes legitimately does not make them any less moraly culpable than the 419ers. Even then most of the time those people who are unfortnately duped are not as blameless as Mr ABC reporter might want us to believe. How does someone want to WASH money 25k for 3million? Is he not as culpable as the scammer. even more culpable in my books.. At least the scammer was shooting for 25k, this thief was going for 2 million plus in laundered money. People are so easily moved by over sensationalised journalism. **** u Mr ABC craka.
Just venting

At least Osofia will make more money after this. Every publicity is good publicity. And maybe this will make some people think twice before getting into this type of business.

@ Obariba's last post & it's attachments:
How far do you want to take this? I mean, do you want to deal with the problem of your brothers & sisiters scamming the whole world and thereby giving you a bad name, or you want to come up with excuses by talking about oil money & slavery?...'cause if you really want to go there, don't forget who sold fellow Africans out as slaves to the European bastards, and who sold nigerian oil to the foreigners and kept billions of naira in his own pocket. See now how far back these few unscrupulous elements have been tarnishing our image?
...so, bottom line, do you want to fix the problem by exposing & denouncing these scammers or you want to parambulate by talking about history & geography?
My take...It's time for tough love! Denounce all scammers!!! I know what I'm talking about 'cause even I have been scammed by very close friends in Nigeria.

Tarnish image ????
Thats good now !!!!
abi all Nigerian are now affected by the bad image....terrific !!!
so maybe we should ...wake up and smell the coffee the little boil has now become cancer ...infact I pray that all first world countries should drive every Nigerian back to Nigeria ....let me see if we will not be forced to develop our country and address the corruption and poverty issues !!
(Just look at Dubai ...they have the same oil...their leaders are wealthy but they are still developing that dessert into something else)
Dsam ...I can denounce them from today till tomorrow ....that will not put food on their plate ....what we need to do is denounce corrupt leaders past and present ...we need to start asking for executions ....for anyone that has embezzled money meant to develop and provide for our society !!
I mean IBB has the audacity to run for president and he has supporters !
If those scruffy boys can scam a Surgeon ....who wants to make fast money ...I cant denounce them !!
Maybe Nigerians will start taking the issue of poverty in Nigeria more seriously !!
I will never sit down while Im sunbathing at the beach in the US to......... denounce a poor survivor in some dejected town in Naija trying to put food on his plate! Can you suggest any other options he has ...I mean they all have college degees ....do u have jobs for them ??? or maybe u know where they can get a loan to start a business ....Tell me DeSampler what are their options in Nigeria ??????
If they had free visa's to come abroad like u dont u think they will make a honest living too ??

Haba Obs, you are not suggesting that because of the lack of opportunities and poverty back home, that it is ok to try to defraud people under false pretenses?
How about the thousands of carpenters, plumbers, cooks, cleaners etc, who are under the same economic restriction in nigeria, but inspite of or despite of these conditions, still forge ahead to make an honest living in Nigeria!
I need to read this thread from the start sha, but it is imperative that at all times, we look at the situation from both angles. There is a lot of enterprise in naija, there is no excuse to be a 419er!
Dont make a case for them, even though the 20/20 show was misrepresentative. You're right about Babangida and co however, tief nah tief and they should all be hanged cos they have caused all the problem for naija by their "Authority Stealing"

Kiks its not ok
but how does that matter to them ....they know they are wrong !!
There are many churchs in Nigeria teaching about sin !!
But a hungry man is an angry man and an angry-hungry man will steal for food !!
My point is let this not be about pointing at them being naughty for scamming .........
let folks look at the bigger picture and start coming up with solutions to mend this mess ....or very soon Nigerians will know what real racisim is abroad !!
419 has been around for quite awhile ....very few people were doing it...... infact it was even hard to tell.....
why are there so many people doing it in Naija today ???
What has changed ? Im guessing people are desperate and need help there.

Yes, Obs you are right, there is a canker worm in nigeria, and people who are desperate are following the path of the leaders who are thieves and philanderers themselves, and 419 has been in existence tey tey! But it doesnt make them right does it?. You've identified the problem, the solution must include the criminally minded misfits that are now the very fabric of our society!
You could even make the same argument for armed robbers who steal, rob and kill at will. They are also nigerian youth robbed of opportunity, but these guys arent just robbing the rich with ill gotten wealth are they?NO!. They are murdering, robbing and raping the honest nigerian family, who have also worked their asses of to make ends meet! From that same strain of desperation came people that didnt need to resort to the sword to survive!
I hear wetin you dey talk oh, but in the attempt to identify the problem, lets not glorify the result!

I know a Naija man that hung himself in the UK after being duped in naija ...he put up his house and got a loan from the bank ....he returned to the UK and eneded his life !!
Victims are suicidal too.
Maybe the 20/20 clip should be broadcast in Nigeria and maybe they will stop . It would be nice if there were more jobs and opportunities for the locals.

Dear Villagers,
Abeg any other pesin watched the showcase of shame depicting the satanic activities of some sorry *** Nigerians leaving here in N/America?
Not that it came as a surprise to me, but watching this on TV really got me thinking... how do we work towards salvaging whatever is left of our badly battered image here.
Friends, as I watched this documentary/expose', some holy anger began to well up from within me, and caused me to gradually begin to articulate some plans on how to deal with these activities here in North America, and the following are some of the thoughts that ran through my mind tonite;
Neighborhood Watch: By Nigerians in N/America for Nigerians and all who our lives affect. I thought about what will happen if we establish some sort of neighborhood watches, with the idea of sending reports on our shadowy fellow Nigerians living in our neighborhood to US FBI and or the local law enforcement authorities. Providing law enforcement with as much info as we know on any of these individuals and persuade the law enforcement agency to carry out further investigations on the activities of the fingered individuals. How can you explain individuals leaving in a $500,000 property, driving an $80,000 suv but owns a seemingly $5,000/month max type of business?
EFCC-N/AMERICA: Understandably the issue of jurisdiction may make this difficult to execute, however, what will happen if EFCC establishes presence here in USA, working with the FBI and select-properly scrutinized Nigerian USA residents & citizens? For the most part, we know some of these sorry *** Nigerians leaving among us here in USA, and what will be better for a new Nigerian image, than we that are sincerely troubled about these acts, willfully enlisting with an EFCC-N/America agency to combat these shamefully satanic activities, and the EFCC can equally pursue these criminals back home and extradite them back to USA to face the laws of the land which they contravened.
Biometrics & Nigeria: Well since a large number of Nigerians back home now own cell phones, it pretty much provides further justification for introducing biometrics technology into Nigeria. How..., whats the need... & or why..., you may ask?
Well, some of these cell phones are high end phones and can be made an insurable risk if insurance companies have a way to block each phone from being used, immediately after it has been reported stolen or missing. What will happen if the said thief now realizes that he cannot resell the stolen cell phone, because its now blocked, thus ending the erstwhile profitable cell phone stealing prevalent back home.
Also, imagine if current users now know that with say a fee of =N=5.00/month he can insure his phone for life against theft etc. Well, the insurance/ GSM biometric/security company will need to establish a database for all their insured owners right? (think about it). ( I think that plans are in the works to establish this cell phone security system in Nigeria as we speak).
Also, what if the Federal Road Safety Corps commences a relicensing exercise for issuing a new international drivers licenses in Nigeria. And what if these new licenses comes complete with an entry for digital finger-printing and all data stored in a biometric database, and all motor vehicle operators be given till the end of 2007 to get the new drivers license or else?
What if this biometric database is linked to the FBI crime database records, and say the US embassy & other international embassies in Nigeria, can now perform some sort of background check on visa applicants this way?
Exit/Travel Visas: What if Nigerians have a way of sending the information of most criminals to all the embassies in Nigeria, making it difficult for such individuals to obtain exit visas for overseas travel?
Fellow villagers, please reflect on the sorry situation of Nigerian colleges and the menace of college gangs to the Nigerian society. Me think that because we are numerically illiterate, and have not established a national database, thats why most college gangsters will commit satanic traumatic crimes & still very easily land enviable jobs after graduating from colleges.
The more I think about these things, I fear for my life, however the thought of what may possibly result from these ideas, if more Nigerians start thinking along these lines...
Fellow villagers, I believe I have said too much already, and I sincerely do hope I am speaking to the right group of Nigerians, who wants to make a difference in the lives of other Nigerians that wants to make a difference. So my people, make una kuku think about these things & lets read your thoughts hopefully soon.
Respectfully yours
