Unhappy Nigerian Scam on ABC's 20/20

ABC's 20/20 will feature a program on Nigerian 419, this Friday (12/08/06) at 10 p.m. Eastern Time.
For a preview... go to ABC news
This is really sad...

Why is it sad? Isn't it the truth?
And what are they saying that we haven't heard before?
I don't waste my time watching things like this.
They should call me when they feature Nigerians saving American lives in their many hospitals on TV.
20/20 my foot...more like blind leading the blind.

I saw that the other day. They showed a little of Nkem Owoh's "I go chop your dollar" video.

Make them go sidon for doti jare! There are many notable Nigerians working hard for their daily bread: entrepreneurs, professionals, even some fighting the on-going war in Iraq on behalf of America. A Nigerian just came back to the U.S two weeks ago, after serving in Iraq for 8 years. Many Nigerian Doctors and Nurses fill most of their critical positions in hospitals around the U.S. They won't see those ones. Dr. Phil had his own version of "Nigerian 419" a few weeks ago and I hear there will be more in the new year. I am not justifying 419, but every country has her own skeleton in her cupboard.
Make 20/20 shussssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhh

It looks like the one they featured here on very early Wednesday morning on ITV. I caught the tail end of it as I was getting ready for work.

While I don't condone 419 Scams in any shape or form, I feel that the Nigerian Government should prosecute some of the 'victims' too, in cases where it appears the 'victims' connived to help the 419-ers siphon money out of Nigeria.

The intense negative publicity of the 419 scams is sad and embarrassing for a lot of us Nigerians making decent and honest living in whichever part of the world we live in.

It can affect us in many other ways too. I'll give you an example. Very recently, the other half and I lost a good business venture because the English man we needed something from had had some nasty past experience with some Nigerian 419-ers.
Suffice to say, we lost some good hard-earned money and a good business venture because of it.

Having said all this, I agree with some of the comments on here about the lack of positive publicity on all the good works Naijas do all over the world.
