A choir rehearsal that started with praises to God in a church in Lagos on Saturday ended with grief when a lady believed to be a chorister was found dead in the church.The circumstances that built up to the death could not be ascertained as at press time, but our correspondent learnt that the 20-year-old lady was found hanging.

The choir/youth members of a church (name withheld) in Amuwo Odofin area of the state were said to have converged for their weekly rehearsal on Saturday.Midway into the rehearsal, one of the youths was said to have visited the toilet and was shocked to find a human body dangling from the ceiling of the church’s toilet.She reportedly raised the alarm, which drew the attention of her colleagues to the scene.On examination, the youths discovered that the hanging body was their colleague, who had earlier reported for the rehearsal.

Some elders of the church were invited and when they loosed the noose from the neck of the girl, who was simply identified as Ochuko, she was stone dead.A report was made at Festac Town Police Station at about 7pm on the same day and some policemen were drafted to the church to confirm what happened.The policemen saw the lifeless body of the lady still lying by the toilet and removed it to the mortuary of the Lagos State General Hospital, Marina.

It was learnt that the church elders, on Sunday evening, were still meeting to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident.Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Olubode Ojajuni, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday.Ojajuni, a newly promoted superintendent of police, told our correspondent that the police would collaborate with the church and the lady’s family in order to establish the reason for the lady’s action.

He said, “We have not suspected any foul play, but we are going to investigate the girl’s death.“For instance, we need to know the girl’s history, her position in the church and her relationship with other people, including her family members. This information will give us a clue on why she chose to commit suicide in the church, and if possible, the reason for her action.”The PPRO said the police had already interviewed some members of the church, adding that the investigation was still in progress.

Before you consider me as very mean,let it be noted that the girl is not going to heaven regardless of the fact that she committed this horrible act in a church.Infact,it even makes her journey to hell a swift race!!

I might be moved by the fact that the location of the act is in the house of GOD which tells of her closeness to her creature but,taking life has no remedy folks.HE never promised a life similar to chilling in florida sorrounded by palm trees.Infact,the bible said that....when you pass through fire,it would not burn you and when you pass through water you would not drown"That is another way of saying that in your lifetime,there would be fires and rivers to pass through but in all,your redeemer would help you out.
Whatever might be the case,it tells of our tendency to despair in difficulties.HE did promise that HE would make a way in the desert but we don't want to see any wilderness/desert.Know it from now that if you don't pass a test you would not have a testimony!!

I can understand what you are saying . But what is it that have driven a young girl of twenty to take her own life in a church Barthroom. It must be beyond reasoning for her. Hopelessness, despair, Sickness Only she knows Most of us are not strong enough to deal with those problems. I just wish She thought of going for help in that church before doing it in it restroom. May God forgive her and give her rest.

I wont call you mean but rather I would say, you can NEVER understand the state of mind of a person that just took his or her life - PERIOD! I don't think you should judge cause she did it in church! I gues such stories should make you thank GOD even much more, that you are still alive till today. No one wakes up one morning and says " TOday is the day i wanna take my life".
Be happy, that you have friends, that care for you! Be happy that you always someone to talk to. You don't know anything about this lady, so how will you know that she is going to hell? Na you be God? Papino leave matter abeg and keep on thanking God that you are still alive! Cause this story just made me realise once more that LIFE IS A GIFT!!!

I am not unaware of the difficulties of life.I have a fair share of pains and despair and i can proudly say that i am a testimony of the steadfastness of GOD.The state through its laws must have considered the bible principle of not committing suicide when punishments for reckless behaviour are spelled out in the law books of every soveriegn nation on planet earth.
Whatever might be the case,i know that live is a gift that i must cuddle and not crush bcos i still know who gave it to me.I am definitely not GOd but i know that i am made in HIS image and likeness.This puts me in a position to imagine how GOD would feel if i mess with what HE gave to me to manage untill he asks for it!!
My sista,i probably feel more sorry for the young woman than you would ever know but let us even in the meanest of conclusions,discourage committing suicide as it does not solve anything.
Unless this thread is a silent invitation to a pity-party which, i doubt!!!

Am not saying that am encouraging suicide! You surley did not get my message! You can't compare yourself with her. You are not, or let me rather say, you were not in her shoes, neither was she in yours abi? Ehen then keep on thanking God that he saw you trough all your storms. I do not know how old you are but we are talking about a person in a very tender age. That does not seem to know another way out. Okay this happened in the church but what about those that do not have God in their lives and still they option for suicide? My broda, fact is that suicide is the main exit door for people that don't seem to have another option, you as outstanding person would probably, or would think otherwise, people in with this kind of mindsetting don't! That's what am trying to point out on you! There is no excuse to for it, you leave people back that are hurt and simply do not understand what was going on and probably live that shock for the rest of their life. People that chose this option do believe that they will have eternal rest. If they did believe in God or not is left up to them. In short before I begin to preach what I am saying is all fingers are not equal, we are not made out of the same wood! What might makes sense to you, wouldn't make sense to me and the other way round. I guess the lady chose to do it this way, because it made more than sense to her, but of course for an outstanding person (like you) it wouldn't!

I don't think any situation should make any one commit suicide because there is nothing one would go through that someone else hasn't experience ...... There is a spirit behind it...............
