One year in remembrance:Bimbo Odukoya

Tears flow at Bimbo Odukoya’s remembrance

By CHIAGOZIEM OTUECHERE and CHRISTY ONWUEGBUZIE
Monday, December 11, 2006

Tears flowed freely yesterday during a well attended service held at the Fountain of Life Church in memory of Pastor Bimbo Odukoya who died in the Sosoliso plane crash, last year December in Port Harcourt.

Though, her husband, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya said that the service was not for mourning but for thanksgiving, members of the congregation could not help but shed tears, especially when the choir ministered in a medley of chorus believed to be the late Bimbo Odukoya’s favourites.

Moved by the tears, the senior Pastor said he didn’t like remembrance, because it could make people cry although “it is not bad for those that have passed on.”

The late inspirational speaker was described as “a five-star General; an icon in the ministry and a multi-talented instrument in the hands of God.”

Pastor Taiwo Odukoya told the congregation that his late wife lived a fulfilled life that not only affected his life positively but that of others.
“My wife’s life fulfilled the scriptures. Her life has changed part of me. She didn’t leave me the way she met me. She was not only a gift to me but also to others,” he said.

The late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya died a year ago after the December 10, Sosoliso air crash which claimed the lives of many Nigerians, including 60 students of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja.

Also receiving accolades during the church service was the wife of Lagos State Governor, Chief Oluremi Tinubu, who Pastor Odukoya described as a kind-hearted and good natured woman.
He added that Mrs Tinubu was a good woman who stood by the family “throughout our moments of grief.”
His words: “That she is here for this service is not for political reasons. All these past months, she has been calling me, my kids and my in-laws to ask after our well-being.”
