Ibori's aide, sister to appear before London court
Two women accused of assisting a former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, in money laundering will be charged to court in London on January 8, 2008.
The women, Mrs. Bimpe Pogoson, said to be Ibori's former personal assistant and Ms. Christie Ibie, said to be the former governor's sister, had presented themselves to the Belgravia Police Station in London on Wednesday but were allegedly granted bail.
However, the two women, alongside others yet to be named, will appear before the City of Westminster Magistrate's Court in London for aiding Ibori in his alleged money laundering activities.
A report by an online news agency, Saharareporters.com on Wednesday, stated that some stringent conditions were attached to the bail granted Pogoson and Ibie.
The report states, Only two of the accomplices, Pogoson, Ibori's former personal assistant on confidential matters, and Ibie, the former governor's sister, presented themselves at the Belgravia Police Station today (Wednesday).
The Crown Prosecution decided to permit them to go home on bail with five conditions attached.
Saharareporters, however, could not ascertain the nature of the conditions as at press time.
Ibori was arrested in Nigeria last Wednesday by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly stealing N9.1bn belonging to Delta State.
He was first arraigned last Thursday in Kaduna but was denied bail by a Federal High Court.
When the case came up again on Monday, the court remanded him in Kaduna prisons till January 11, 2008.
Ibori was also arraigned along with another female co-accused, Ms. Udoamaka Okoronkwo.
